Frederick Eley is considered to be Orange County's first professional architect, moreover he was Santa Ana's first architect. Eley built or designed hundreds of homes in Orange County as well as schools and public buildings. A special building of his design that comes to mind is the Ebell Club on Civic center and Mortimer St. That building has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Imagine, just for a second you step out onto your back porch, And this is your backyard. trees for as far as the eye can see. This was a very common view in before World War II. Where we have small pockets of development and individual lots that still had orange groves. Many kids you got their first skinned knees climbing in these trees, myself included.

A super rare photograph of in the , at the intersection of Baker, running N/S and Santa Clara Ave running E/W. This was identified by the ivy shrubbery on the north western corner, most of which still exists on the site today. As well as the of the two houses visible on that corner. These came from of original owners I just researched for a client! The older gentleman is Horace Scott, and . Mrs. Maurine Scott, in the green at center noted junior high school teacher in and their eldest son Robert stands at the right, he would go on to at for nearly 50 years in . These two shots were taken around Christmas time More than likely in the late 40s. No exact date.
In these we can see wonderful of the house and it's We can even know the texture of the stucco on the exterior of the home. The first photo is of the front yard which is exactly the same as today including the wrought iron abstract crucifix near the roof line, and the second photo is of the backyard which shows the garage and a pergola type structure on top of a cement pad. Photos like these are extremely and I am extremely happy that the family is going to share them with me for research.
Finding out the parts of the daily lives and works of past owners is as interesting as it is rewarding! Prof. Scott taught for many years, teaching chemistry and geology, was his favorite. He would routinely take his friends on to go in the to teach geology hands on. His son Robert Scott would go on to work on the during World War II and then create a very notable career for himself at in the field of chemistry emphasis on .
