BIO
Susana De Leon, better known as Timoi, is an innovative and influential female Artist based in Los Angeles. Timoi is known for her motley and memorable characters, subversive “dolls” that embody female empowerment and celebrate women’s self-determination. Many have attempted to emulate her visual style of her work, her trademark eyelashes and anime inspired eyes, yet her characters carry an emotional range and authenticity that can’t be matched. The artist’s work enlightens as it entertains, conveying a universe of feminine wonder, hence the title of this show, “EL MUNDO TIMOI” (The World of TIMOI). Timoi’s visual narratives inspires visitors to expand their view of themselves. Thus far, Timoi has been involved in advocating for violence against women, police brutality and youth empowerment.
Originally from Guatemala, Timoi began making graffiti in and around Los Angeles since 1995 under the nicknames of “Tootsie” and “Calo.” In 1999 she adopted the moniker TIMOI, an acronym for “Trapped In My Own Imagination”. Exhibiting her “dolls” all over California, in Miami, Seattle and most recently alongside graffiti legend “Lady Pink” in New York, Timoi’s art is not only beautiful but highly collectable.

TODAY 4MP AT MASARTE GALLERY: Native American Photography! 👁
Join us Sat., July 13 at 4pm for Native Nations in LA, a special pop up photo exhibit by Diné (Navajo) photographer and multimedia documentarian Pamela J. Peters at Media Arts Santa Ana's MASARTE Gallery, located at 1666 N Main in Santa Ana.
The Native Nations in LA exhibit showcases the rich diversity of tribal nations present in Los Angeles, California. The images displayed highlight the modern representation of Native Americans from different tribal nations, shedding light on cultures often overlooked in the diverse landscape of Los Angeles.
Additionally, there is a noticeable gap in knowledge regarding the migration of indigenous peoples to urban areas and the cultural significance of tribal nations in contemporary society. Despite national flags being widely recognized as symbols of pride, many individuals in the United States remain unaware of the nation-to-nation relationship between the U.S. and sovereign tribal nations, as well as the historical and cultural depth of this connection.
Pamela J. Peters is a Diné (Navajo) photographer and multimedia documentarian living in Los Angeles. She is also a California Creative Corps Fellow. Her website is www.pamelajpeters.com.
MASARTE Gallery is located at 1666 N Main in Santa Ana (at 17th across from Norms).
Free street parking on 16th and Bush streets. Metered parking on Main and Sycamore. Accessible by OCTA 53, 553, 83, 60 and 560 bus lines. This project is a part of the CA Creative Corps, which is generously supported by the California Arts Council and administered by Community Partners.
Media Arts Santa Ana's TVGB Digital Maker Space and MASARTE Gallery are located in the Santa Ana Arts Collective building. For more information, visit www.masamedia.org or email [email protected].
