"The most sustainable way is to not make things. The second most sustainable way is to make something very useful, to solve a problem that hasn't been solved." - Thomas Sigsgaard

👏 We 👏 couldn't 👏 agree 👏 more 👏

We don't believe in just making stuff for the sake of it, but we also couldn't believe someone hadn't sorted out the plastics problem for parents already. So, we're doing it ourselves - by designing out plastic and waste in kid's essentials we're not passing on the problem.

We're solving this one for you.

Introducing ZERO - the debut product range from My Childe.

ZERO bring you the world's only range of 100% plastic-free disposable nappies and wipes.

Our products:

🥊 Contain zero plastic, so they …
🥊 Don't create microplastics
🥊 Are radically sustainable
🥊 Look good. Like, really good

Why are we taking on plastic? It's a huge problem, for a start, and one we assumed the big brands would be all over. Turns out we were wrong - there wasn't a single brand out there making 100% plastic-free disposables, and with the climate stakes already so high we didn't think we could risk waiting around for someone else to make the change for us.

This is only the beginning - our first products are in the works, and we’re not stopping there.

Make sure you follow along over at The Zero Store, and on instagram at instagram.com/zero.bymychilde, to join us on the journey (and be the first to try our awesome products!).

Next on our list of plastic-free changemakers is Pearl Chan, founder of Resparkle and the inspiring mind behind the ‘It Only Takes a Minute’ initiative.

Resparkle is a chic, non-toxic cleaning brand of reusable bottles made of glass and silicon, paired with powdered refill sachets that are entirely compostable (they believe in more plants and less plastic).

This plastic-free changemaker didn't stop there. Riding the success of Resparkle and a desire to do more, Pearl launched the 'It Only Takes A Minute' initiative - a pledge to reduce plastic consumption, supported by the likes of and , to reduce plastic every day.

“The movement was not to scaremonger but rather very plainly and simply deliver the confronting one tonne a minute problem.”

The 'It Only Takes A Minute' movement saw over 900 people pledge within a short span of 20 days. Chan's follow-up movement to combat the plastic problem, Lids4Planter, is showing the same momentum. This recycling project asks you to donate plastic lids to be given a new life as planter pots.

“The future lies in each of us and it gives me so much hope that people are proactively wanting to do their bit.”

“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”

It’s time for a different perspective - to challenge the status quo and try a new way of thinking.

What do climate conversations look like in your family? We’d love for you to share your experiences below!

How to talk honestly to kids about climate change — and still give them hope Climate change is real, and it’s serious. But parents can point their children to solutions and show them we all have something to contribute, say climate scientists Katharine Hayhoe PhD and Rosima…

"I think setting the agenda is half the battle, so the fact that most of us are living in communities globally which are becoming increasingly conscious of our environmental impact is really encouraging."

If single-use plastics aren’t your jam, you will love our next plastic-free changemaker. Introducing Josh Howard: CEO of . Named as a 2021 finalist in TED and Laminex Design Awards, Josh has developed Australia’s first dissolvable hand soap tablet that comes in a (sexy) reusable glass bottle - just add water.

“I love brand names that explain what the product does and leave you wanting to know more. ‘Single Use Ain’t Sexy’ seemed like the perfect fit.”

Did you know there are more microplastics in the ocean than stars in our galaxy?

Over 500 times more, to be exact, according to the United Nations Environment Programme. It's a mind-boggling number - 51 trillion particles - and one we don't plan on adding to.

Are you ready to make the plastic-free change? Join us on the journey at the link in bio.

“Everything needs to change.”

By now you've likely read or seen coverage of the ICPP's "code red" climate change report. The long story short? Climate change is here (something we've known for decades), and it's intensifying.

CO2 levels now are higher than they've been for at least 2 million years, and are on track to continue to rise.

There's no excuse for big businesses carrying on pretending the problem doesn't exist, just like there's no excuse for passing the problem on to individuals.

We believe the onus is on us to make the change - and that change is starting today.

My Childe’s resident futurist and sustainability nerd is our go-to guy for problem solving and book recommendations. So, we asked him what he’s reading at the moment. Swipe across for his current picks (perfect for an overcast Sunday).

▪️’Life 3.0’ by Max Tegmark
“Great analysis on AI – the possibility of it becoming Artificial General Intelligence and superintelligence. What would it mean for our species and the implications for us, a potential space-fairing race? Not to mention its downsides!”

▪️’Zero to One’ by Peter Thiel & Blake Masters
“Peter is the co-founder of Paypal, and his take on business, and what makes a business truly unique, is contrary to what many people usually think. I especially love his four personality types.”

▪️’Ecological Intelligence’ Daniel Goleman
“It was not 100% what I was expecting. Although much time is devoted to how companies can improve their method of conducting business, the book doesn't go far enough, unfortunately. It pays lip service to companies that do only a fraction of what they really could do if they actually wanted to change for the betterment of the planet.”

▪️’Mothering our Boys’ by Maggie Dent
“Thank you, Maggie (and ), for opening my eyes to why my son (and daughter) do the things they do. This book is worth its weight in gold, for it has shown me how to behave, respond and care for my children to everyone's benefit.”

▪️’Let My People Go Surfing’ by Yvon Chouinard
“Yvon is the founder of Patagonia. One of the greatest companies in existence (in my humble opinion), and I can only dream of building a company as Yvon has done.”

Did you know that it's World Breastfeeding Week?

From August 1-7 is a global opportunity to learn, raise awareness and galvanise action for breastfeeding support, and this year's theme is 'Protect breastfeeding: A shared responsibility'.

My Childe is a huge advocate for celebrating the village it takes to raise a child, and we love how this theme speaks to the need for both individual and industry encouragement, care and assistance for breastfeeding parents.

In honour of the week, we're hosting our second 'Innovators' Instagram Live Q&A (this Friday at 11am!) with the founder of Australian startup , Alex Sinickas.

Alex is an engineer, working to change the way breast pumps feel for women by redesigning the pump from the ni**le up. Milkdrop launched its first product in April: an ultra-soft silicone cushion that stretches over the head of common breast pumps, making them softer, more natural feeling and more comfortable for the wearer.

We'll be talking to Alex all things Milkdrop, World Breastfeeding Week, and what it takes to turn an incredible idea into a fully-fledged business. Tune in Friday at 11:15am for the Q&A, hosted by our Content Director .

Got a question for Alex? Submit one in our stories and we'll ask her for you on the day!
