Hello everyone, welcome back to another history session. Today we are starting off the earliest Starbucks in America and beginning with a man named "Edward Starbuck" (1604-1691). He was both in either Derbyshire or Attenborough, England, and arrived in the New World about 1635 in what is now called Dover, New Hampshire. He was highly looked upon in Dover.
In 1647 and 1650, he was granted the right to erect sawmills and in 1652 he was granted the right to use certain lands. In 1643, he was chosen as the first Representative from Dover to the General Court of the Massachusetts Bay Colony and served again in 1647. However, he had problems in Dover, his religious views were not acceptable to his fellow townsmen considering he was not a Quaker unlike his descendants. Rather, he had evidently come under the influence of the Anabaptists who were disturbing the colony. In 1648, he was charged with "denying to join with the church in the ordinance of baptism."
This was the time he settled on Nantucket after this ordinance from what I have read, because his religious views stayed in Dover. But after the fact he just ended up removing himself and his family from Dover and moved to Nantucket in 1660. While he was not an original purchaser, Edward and his son Nathaniel were a part of the first group of associates chosen by the purchasers in 1659. He became highly esteemed on the island and respected by the Indians. His name even appears on the earliest Indian deed in 1660. He served as a selectman in 1673 and was nominated to the position of Captain though he was not chosen. During the thirty years of his life spent on Nantucket, he was instrumental in the development of that land.
He then lived sixty-five years and died on February 4th, 1690. His wife's death is unknown but is believed to have been prior to the move to Nantucket as there is no record. For his children however, some passed on early, but he had six children by the names of,
1. Nathaniel (1635 - 1662) Married Mary Coffin
2. Sarah: Birth and Death unknown, Married William Story 1668; Josep Austin 1684 who then married Humphrey Varney as second wife.
3. Dorcas: Birth unknown, death 1696, married William Gayer
4. Abigail: Birth and death unknown, married Peter Coffin, who became a Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of New Hampshire.
5. Esther: Birth and death unknown; married Humphrey Varney as first wife.
6. Jethro: Birthday 1651, death 1663, was ran over by a cart.
Though this is a small post, I will be regarding his children in the next posts that I will do. Each story is just as long; hence I might as well separate them all. I will also be posting photos I recently acquired from my cousin Lisa so stay tuned for more. Thank you for those that have waited and hope to post more History soon!
Everyone in the family should know one thing, and that is that we have a huge ancestry. All my life I truly wondered who exactly is related back to me, and I am sure a lot of people wonder this too. So, let's first point out some important ancestors that I have researched far and wide to find out who they are and how far back the ancestry line goes.
Today we are starting off with a man named "Tristram Coffin" (1605-1681). Tristram Coffin is one of the Starbuck ancestors, he was traced back to the Conquest of England by William the Conqueror with the assistance of Richard Coffin. Richard Coffin was the knight of Normandy in 1066 and was granted an estate now called "Portledge Manor" which is in the southwest part of Bideford, Devon. This estate and the land surrounding it has belonged to the Coffin family, aka a noble family of Norman origin for almost 1,000 years!
Tristram Coffin was the founder of the name in America, born in Brixton, Devonshire, England in 1605. In 1660 he settled in Nantucket and passed on October 2nd,1681 at the age of 72, leaving 9 of his children behind. Two of the children Mary and John married into the Starbuck family being Nathaniel Starbuck and Deborah Starbuck. Now, I have a feeling you are asking, "Why is Mr. Coffin important? What's his legacy?", I have the answers here. Tristram Coffin was no amazing person, he moved a lot throughout his life, but his children started something that would be left in our history books today.
Mary Coffin Starbuck, daughter of Tristram Coffin, she became a leader in introducing Quaker practices into Nantucket. A grandson, James Coffin, he was the first of the Coffins to enter into the whaling business. Sir Isaac Coffin, he served during the American Revolutionary War and became an admiral in the British Royal Navy where he also founded a school on the Nantucket Island in 1827 to educate descendants on nautical skills. Lucretia Coffin Mott was a Quaker who became a prominent abolitionist and women's rights activist who helped write the Declaration of Sentiments during the Seneca Falls Convention in 1848.
Some branches of the Coffin family were also prominent in New England, the so-called "Boston Brahmins". For example, Elizabeth Coffin who was a daughter of a wealthy merchant from Nantucket, was the mother of prominent Massachusetts industrialists being Henry Coffin Nevins and David Nevins Jr. Another important name is Charles A. Coffin (1844-1926), he became the co-founder and first President of the General Electric corporation. In the eighth generation, Elizabeth Coffin (1850-1930), she was an artist, educator and Quaker philanthropist who was known for her paintings of Nantucket and for reviving Sir Isaac Coffin's school with a new emphasis on crafts. Lastly, in the ninth generation, Robert P. T. Coffin (1892-1955), he was an American poet who won the Pulitzer Prize in 1936 for his book of collected poems called Strange Holiness.
Are you still reading? That is exciting! But you are going to have to stay tuned for the next post of the people I have mentioned in this post or other special interest ancestors. Let me know which one you want me to do first! I can always do separate posts of the different people I have mentioned, but I do hope you enjoyed what I have written. There is so many ancestors and descendants to write about, and just know, there are some that may shock you!
Take care everyone,
Emily

Hello Everyone,
This is Emily, I wanted to let you know that I am back in town and working on the new page as we speak. Currently in the process of getting most of the photos from this page into the new one and making a post that has our rich royal & famous blood ancestors. It will take a bit more to set up the page but once I am finished I will post the link. Keep you posted :)
Hello Everyone,
This is Emily, I wanted to make an announcement of the dilemma I am having with Facebook at the moment. My cousin Lisa & I have been trying to fix what has been happening with the password situation and to no avail the Facebook support has not helped. I am a techy person myself, but this seems irreversible and quite frustrating. I am Admin, but without a working username and password to change certain settings, things go a little wonky and if at any given point this program logs me out, this page will not work for me. So, what I'm going to do for the next week or so because I will be out of town for a bit, I'll transfer whatever is on this page into a new page. Once finished I'll post the new page and see if this one can be deactivated. I hope you all are understandable of this decision to make a new page and will follow with it. Once the new page is activated, I'll be able to post more about our family history, I am currently in the works of making a couple new posts with information that may shock most of you on what I found in an archive! Stay tuned and have a wonderful day.
Hello Family, Friends, and Public.
My name is Emily Nuss, new author/admin of this page with permission from one of my cousins. I am a direct descendent of the Starbucks. My mission on this page is to share our family history with the use of old photographs, videos, heirlooms, past down stories, cherished memories and genealogical discoveries. I am open to listening to everyone's stories that they were brought up with as we have all heard many different things. Stories should never be forgotten, and neither should our history, it holds so many great pieces of information that are taught in schools and throughout social media platforms. However, there are so many more stories that can teach the public more about who we are and where we come from. This post will be a fresh start to the page, any family tarnish will be directly monitored or deleted, this is not the place to start anything crude. So, let's go down time together and bridge the past to present day to preserve our family's story for generations to come. Welcome to any newcomers who want to join me on this mission to save the memories of our ancestors!
This page might be deleted by Facebook. If it is please look for a similar name because I will make another similar page. Thanks
Thought this was a cute story to share even though it has nothing to do with the Walker Ranch, it is a touching story from so long ago

The Black Telephone
Those of us old enough to remember when the phone was wired to the wall, usually in the kitchen, can relate to this story. I loved this read.
When I was a young boy, my father had one of the first telephones in our neighborhood. I remember the polished, old case fastened to the wall. The shiny receiver hung on the side of the box.. I was too little to reach the telephone, but used to listen with fascination when my mother talked to it.
Then I discovered that somewhere inside the wonderful device lived an amazing person. Her name was "Information Please" and there was nothing she did not know. Information Please could supply anyone's number and the correct time.
My personal experience with the genie-in-a-bottle came one day while my mother was visiting a neighbor. Amusing myself at the tool bench in the basement, I whacked my finger with a hammer, the pain was terrible, but there seemed no point in crying because there was no one home to give sympathy. I walked around the house sucking my throbbing finger, finally arriving at the stairway.
The telephone! Quickly, I ran for the footstool in the parlor and dragged it to the landing. Climbing up, I unhooked the receiver in the parlor and held it to my ear. "Information, please," I said into the mouthpiece just above my head.
A click or two and a small clear voice spoke into my ear. "Information."
"I hurt my finger..." I wailed into the phone, the tears came readily enough now that I had an audience..
"Isn't your mother home?" came the question
"Nobody's home but me," I blubbered.
"Are you bleeding?" the voice asked
"No, "I replied. "I hit my finger with the hammer and it hurts."
"Can you open the icebox?" she asked.
I said I could.
"Then chip off a little bit of ice and hold it to your finger," said the voice.
After that, I called "Information Please" for everything. I asked her for help with my geography, and she told me where Philadelphia was. She helped me with my math.
She told me my pet chipmunk that I had caught in the park just the day before, would eat fruit and nuts.
Then, there was the time Petey, our pet canary, died. I called, "Information Please," and told her the sad story. She listened, and then said things grown-ups say to soothe a child. But I was not consoled. I asked her, "Why is it that birds should sing so beautifully and bring joy to all families, only to end up as a heap of feathers on the bottom of a cage?"
She must have sensed my deep concern, for she said quietly, " Wayne , always remember that there are other worlds to sing in." Somehow I felt better.
Another day I was on the telephone, "Information Please."
"Information," said in the now familiar voice.
"How do I spell fix?" I asked
All this took place in a small town in the Pacific Northwest . When I was nine years old, we moved across the country to Boston . I missed my friend very much.
"Information Please" belonged in that old wooden box back home and I somehow never thought of trying the shiny new phone that sat on the table in the hall. As I grew into my teens, the memories of those childhood conversations never really left me. Often, in moments of doubt and perplexity I would recall the serene sense of security I had then. I appreciated now how patient, understanding, and kind she was to have spent her time on a little boy.
A few years later, on my way west to college, my plane put down in Seattle . I had about a half-hour or so between planes. I spent 15 minutes or so on the phone with my sister, who lived there now. Then without thinking what I was doing, I dialed my hometown operator and said, "Information Please."
Miraculously, I heard the small, clear voice I knew so well.
"Information."
I hadn't planned this, but I heard myself saying, "Could you please tell me how to spell fix?"
There was a long pause. Then came the soft spoken answer, "I guess your finger must have healed by now."
I laughed, "So it's really you," I said. "I wonder if you have any idea how much you meant to me during that time?"
"I wonder," she said, "if you know how much your calls meant to me. I never had any children and I used to look forward to your calls."
I told her how often I had thought of her over the years and I asked if I could call her again when I came back to visit my sister.
"Please do," she said. "Just ask for Sally."
Three months later I was back in Seattle .
A different voice answered, "Information."
I asked for Sally.
"Are you a friend?" she said.
"Yes, a very old friend," I answered.
"I'm sorry to have to tell you this," She said. "Sally had been working part time the last few years because she was sick. She died five weeks ago."
Before I could hang up, she said, "Wait a minute, did you say your name was Wayne ?" "
"Yes." I answered.
Well, Sally left a message for you. She wrote it down in case you called. Let me read it to you. The note said, "Tell him there are other worlds to sing in. He'll know what I mean."
I thanked her and hung up. I knew what Sally meant.
Never underestimate the impression you may make on others.
Whose life have you touched today?

I know this is not in placerita Canyon but the Dukes of hazard was filmed there so I thought I would share these pictures. On I believe Newhall Ave there was a body shop that worked on the General Lees. There was a whole parking lot of them. My mom and grandma stopped there to let my brother and I get to see them and get our pictures taken. These are pictures of my brother. The doors actually opened but my brother just had to go through the window like the Duke boys. My mom got on to him for doing that and asked him why he did not just open the door and get in. His reply was I wanted to be like Bo Duke. Something a boy would do. Lol
People who live in Santa Clarita I am sure remembered the old town that use to be on the Golden Oak Ranch aka Disney Ranch were the new town sits now. We were fortunate enough to go there as kids, my grandma knew the man who ran it at the time and he let go us go and see the old town Roots 2 set and other buildings. What an exciting day that was.
I had to share this photo, it came up on my page as a memory. Melba Walker my grandmother playing ball with my grandson 12 years ago.
