Here’s your tip for the week: You gotta eat while you’re in the race.
Every year, we’ve got a few athletes that finish the race feeling completely spent. A good way to avoid that feeling and enjoy the finish line is to fuel up as you’re out there.
Here’s a helpful article that touches on the topic for beginners:

Open water success! We had a lovely group of swimmers show up to the open water clinic hosted by the Santa Cruz Triathlon Association.
If you missed it, don’t worry! There’s another one coming up this Sunday (8/20). Same time, same place. Register ahead of time!
Hey everyone! Come in because the water is amazing in Santa Cruz. Some might call it cold while others might say “Absolutely no way.”
We all have different opinions on racing a triathlon, but believe us when we say it’s going to be a good day.
Posting this again for anyone who missed it: There’s an open water swim clinic series happening this weekend.
If you’re free and want to learn more about how to swim in the open water, check out this Sunday’s clinic in Santa Cruz.

Feeling a little anxious about swimming in the open water? Don’t worry, a lot of people feel that way.
But we’ve got a solution: Learning from others. The Santa Cruz Triathlon Association is hosting TWO open water swim clinics this month. These clinics will focus tips for dealing with open water anxieties, advice for how to get into the water, and even offer advance techniques like sighting in the water.
The first is this Sunday (8/13) and the second is the following Sunday (8/20).

Practice makes perfect. Our open water swim clinic last year was a hit so we wanted to bring it back again this year. This time, the clinics will be put on by a local club.
The Santa Cruz Triathlon Association is hosting a series of open water swim clinics at Cowell Beach. Each clinic will be broken into two parts: an informational session and a practical swim session.
The informational session will offer tips to athletes about overcoming anxieties in open water, where to place yourself in a corral, and other basic/advance techniques.
The practical session will take participants into the open water in a group setting where they can apply what they've learned.
SCTA Open Water Swimming Series The SCTA Open Water Swimming Series is on Sunday August 13, 2023 to Sunday August 20, 2023. It includes the following events: Clinic #1 and Clinic #2.

Hey all,
Summer is upon us and so is the next price increase for the race. If you’ve been thinking about signing up but haven’t decided yet, here’s a milestone for you to consider.
With that said, here’s a few reasons to consider our race:
1) Amazing views: Riding up the coast with views of the ocean out and back
2) Bigger Transition Area: We’re moving our transition area to a soft soccer field, adjacent to where it was last year. This means more room and a better experience.
3) Helping Out Youth: Proceeds from our race go to Santa Cruz County youth teams, helping them with to learn the sports they love.

Hey everyone,
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 41st year of the Santa Cruz Triathlon. I’m honored to be your race director, serving you since 2018 and involved since 2017.
Producing this race brings me joy as a race director but also as an athlete and a coach. Each year I get to see a thousand people cross that finish line with a priceless look of joy that only comes from a hard day's work.
Year after year, it brings me joy to see this race flourish with local and out-of-town folks alike feeling the excitement for triathlon. Every year it is our intention to provide a fun and safe race experience. We aim to adapt to the growth of the race.
Changes To the Course
This year is no different with several changes from last year. We are making accommodations so that there is more space for you in transition by moving it to the soccer fields at Depot Park.
Another change is the bike course moving from West Cliff Dr. to Delaware Avenue because of the storms earlier this year. This will make for faster bike splits. Stay tuned for more updates about the course throughout the summer.
Helping Younger Athletes
This race has been a benefit for the high school and collegiate youth sports programs in Santa Cruz County. I can’t tell you enough about how excited these kids get when they come out to volunteer on race day. The profits that go towards the schools mean so much to the sports programs.
I know athletes will feel good come race day because of that cause.
It takes a village to produce this race and uphold a community. I want to thank all who contribute to make this race a huge success year after year!
Thank you and welcome to this year’s race experience!
Crystal
