For more than two decades, individuals with a developmental disabilities have created ornaments used to decorate the Christmas Tree at the State Capitol. The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) has been given the task once again to participate in the official State Capitol Tree Lighting Ceremony.

If you are interested in contributing Handmade Ornaments, they must be received at one of the three San Andreas Regional Center offices by 5:00pm on Tuesday, November 5th. San Andreas Regional Center will be delivering all ornaments made by our community to DDS on Thursday, November 8th.

* San Jose Office: 6203 San Ignacio Ave., San Jose, CA 95119

* Salinas Office: 1370 Main Street, Salinas, CA 93901

* Watsonville Office: 1110 Main Street, Watsonville, CA 95076

Dimensions: Ornaments should be large: no smaller than 6 inches in diameter. The tree is usually more than 40 feet tall, and the public is not allowed within 10 feet of the tree. (Larger ornaments are easier to see from this distance).

Colors & Materials: Glass, or other materials that could hurt someone if they fall off the tree are not allowed. Plastic, laminated cardstock, or other, heavier, and waterproof materials work best. (Non-laminated paper will be destroyed by wind and/or rain). Bright colors and reflective material are encouraged because they are more visible from far away.

Individual Photos: If photographs of individuals served are included on ornaments, please provide a signed release authorizing DDS to use the photos. Any ornaments that have people’s photos on them without a release form cannot be used.

Quantity: The tree is very large and has room for many ornaments. We are hoping to contribute 500-1,000 ornaments made by individuals from community and developmental center art programs.

As in previous years, a child with a developmental disability will participate in an evening ceremony with Governor Gavin Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom. The tree lighting ceremony will take place the first week of December.

Walnut Avenue’s Annual Turkey Drive is almost here 🤝🍁!

We ask our fellow followers, donors, and friends for community support to help feed families this holiday season. We are thrilled that every year, we can offer such a wonderful holiday program to the families who use our services. Turkey Drive is an essential event, that can help alleviate stress and need around this time. Thank you to New Leaf Community Markets and their kitchen staff who generously use time to cook meals for the families we work closely with.

To all, we thank you for opening your hearts this season, and know that none of this is possible without your care and compassion.

The Walnut Avenue Team♥️Any amount helps 🧡

🎃 Happy Howl-o-ween from K9 Goose and the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office! 🐾

As you're out trick-or-treating, here are some paw-some safety tips to keep Halloween safe for everyone!

👻 Stay in pawsitive lighting! Be visible by carrying glow sticks or a flashlight to light up your path. K9 Goose says glowing costumes keep you in the spot-light!

🍬 Don’t fur-get to check your treats! Wait until an adult checks your treats to make sure they're safe to enjoy.

🚸 Paws at intersections! Always cross the street at corners, use crosswalks, and make sure to look both ways.

👻 Don’t get leashed into your phone! Whether you're driving or walking - keep your eyes on the road and be aware of your surroundings. Un-fur-tunately one of the most dangerous distractions is your cell phone.

Let's keep this Halloween safe and un-fur-gettable from all of us at the Sheriff’s Office! 🎃 🐾
