"A haunting, spare set of recollections that recall Robert Johnson in their stark intensity and Hank William in their country simplicity." --Musician Magazine
"Vince Bell is not your typical Texas singer-songwriter. His music is more art song than folk song, more Jacques Brel than Woody Guthrie...He's easier to compare to David Crosby or Joni Mitchell than to Willie or Waylon." --Acoustic Guitar

Vince Bell is a Texas grown singer-songwriter and long-time Santa Fe resident who has appeared on Austin City Limits, Mountain Stage, World Cafe and Morning Edition. His songs have been performed and recorded by Little Feat, Lyle Lovett and Nanci Griffith.
A veteran of the 1970’s Montrose songwirter dynasty of Houston Texas, Vince honed his songwriter skills with Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, and Mance Lipscomb, playing at legendary venues like the long-gone Sand Mountain Coffeehouse and immortal Anderson Fair.
On the road and in the decades since, Vince has logged a lifetime of encounters and stories in songs and spoken word recordings that lodge in your heart and soul and don’t let go.

Thanks so much to Lyle Lovett, (who is always a gentleman), for sharing his stage at the Lensic in Santa Fe, and what a great time! So good seeing Leland and enjoyed the visit.
Bob Neuwirth, Colorful Figure in Dylan’s Circle, Dies at 82 He was a recording artist and songwriter himself, but he also played pivotal roles in the careers of Bob Dylan and Janis Joplin.
The creative world lost a wonderful man last night: painter, musician, and recording artist Bob Neuwirth, who died of heart failure in Santa Monica, CA, a month before his 83rd birthday. Bob collaborated with a wide range of artists such as Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, and Patti Smith. He produced two of Vince’s CDs, and he and Vince stayed good friends through the years.
Vince Bell Music "As a songwriter he can easily take his place in that hallowed area occupied by the likes of Randy Newman, Bruce Cockburn and Tom Waits."
A friend took Vince on a drive up to Sandia Crest, a long ridge at the top of the Sandia Mountains
overlooking Albuquerque. In the strong wind at 10,678 feet elevation, Vince had to hold on to his hat!

Since I took these shots of this year’s lights at the Santa Fe Plaza, the 80-year-old spruce tree on the right in front of the St. Francis Cathedral has been toppled by wind. A new tree will replace it.

In Los Cerrillos, on the back road from Santa Fe to Albuquerque, we found the Black Bird Saloon. For lunch we chose the Smelter grilled cheese sandwiches, though it was hard to pass up the Angus Burger, the Elk Burger, and the daily vegetarian option. Some history: In 1885, the turquoise mines of Persia that had supplied the world were mined out, and the price of the blue stone skyrocketed. Los Cerrillos had mines in the area for coal, silver, lead, and gold, and suddenly it boomed as a source of turquoise. Now the former boomtown is more like a charming ghost town; the movies Young Guns, Vampires, and Outrageous Fortune were filmed there.

In Santa Fe a hundred years ago, Cerrillos Road was still part of Route 66. By 1936, when the El Rey Court was built, the road had been named Cerrillos but it still served as a main artery for travelers through the city—as it still does today. And the El Rey is still accommodating guests.
