The Auto Hawks !
My father and some of his friends started this car club back in the late 50s. Their focus was driving safety and helping fellow motorist. Plus I imagine some fast fun ! Today I got a chance to mount the plaque to Deloris . I’m sure Dad would have loved to see this . 🥹👍

Tinkering : I experienced some carb frost the other night . Temps around 32-36 F. The car was sputtering out. So I had some extra tubing from the interior heater . So I rigged it up so the carbs would suck some hot air off the exhaust headers to combat that. After a good road trip today to Saratoga and back no problems at all. Currently 33F at the house and it’s all uphill from the valley to home. No problems at all !! Sometimes a little tinkering is all that’s needed ! 🤩👍👍👍❄️.

Deloris is was in downtown Albany after a trial run down the thruway. The Borg-Warner overdrive works wonders , and is amazing for higher cruising speeds. (Like 60-65mph) 😉👍

We got the motor back . The wrong main bearings were put in. Just waiting on a few gaskets to get here to fire her up .It’s been nothing but working around the clock on this thing ! I want to get her out on the road !

Sad news: the new motor won’t build oil pressure. So it’s going back to the machine shop for them to go through it. From what it sounds like it needs new bearing as there was too much clearance. So I’m hoping to get back on the road by falltime (or earlier)!

We are almost done in the engine bay . I need to figure out the throttle and choke cables yet, waiting for parts to arrive. And run the exhaust …. But we’re getting close to firing this baby up.

Update : the motor is in ! That was an adventure for sure ! We had to get creative with the engine lift and use a ratchet strap to get the motor in the bay. Once in the clear we “popped” that strap and angled the motor and transmission down. We also had to unbolt the floor tunnel for clearance. Thank god my wife was there to help me !! ❤️
Now to start installing all the accessories and hooking up the overdrive transmission. 😅👍

We are getting closer to putting this rocket in . Its been a lot of cleaning and waiting on parts. I needed to make a block plate as well for the fuel pump as I’m going to an electric one. It’s a steep learning curve but we’re getting there. 😉👍

Here we go ! The old motor and transmission are out . And the new motor is on the stand . I need to cleans some parts up ….then time for the reassembly. There’s a whole lot of “firsts” for me on this swap . The new motor will have dual Holley 94 carbs , headers, a new never used overdrive transmission (with all the wiring)and a new set of biased looking Radials from Diamondback tires.
We’re hoping to have Deloris on the road by May ! 🤞
