Yesterday I asked if there is a difference between a tartan and a plaid and there is and it is interesting (I think.) All plaids and tartans are comprised of stripes (in varying sizes and colors) that meet at a 90-degree angle. We start heading into 'tartan' territory by looking at the geometry on the pattern. With most every tartan, the pattern on the stripes running vertically is exactly duplicated on the horizontal axis too. Basically, this matching pattern in both directions will create a grid. The warp and weft threads are then woven in a two-over-two "twill" pattern. When looking at a simple plaid, you'll notice that the stripes — either in color, size, or pattern — are not the same in both directions. (House Beautiful)

17 Fall Trends to Know Now The clothes of the moment — and their pasts. 

This week at Put Together by Claudia I'm going to talk about fall trends and wardrobe staples. Each year I like to add one or two new pieces to my wardrobe. And one piece that I want to add is a moto jacket. There are some things to keep in mind while shopping for one A) You should match the jacket to your personal style. My style is not edgy so I would choose one with more of a classic look and with not a lot of hardware(1,5,7,8) B) Also, fit is really important. I have wider shoulders and back and a long torso so the slimmer, short fits do not work on me so I need to look for one with more give and more of a hip-grazing cut . I would not choose 3 in the picture. C) And although I like the colored jackets, the practical side of me will probably go with a black one since they are timeless. I think I would go with (5) if I had to choose one from the picture.

Yesterday I shared my favorite dress from the Emmy Awards and today I'm going to share my least favorites. I think Amy Poehler's dress made her look old and the fabric looked heavy. What the what...with Anna Chlumsky's dress. Odd fabric and odd train in the back. Emilia Clarke did make it on some "Best" lists but I thought it was BLAH. And although I love Downton Abbey, Laura Carmichael's dress was awful. The textures of the fabrics didn't seem to match and the tones of the colors did not work together. What dress caught your eye in not a good way?

The 68th Emmy Awards were held Sunday evening and TV shows were not the only things receiving awards. The evening's fashion choices were also being critiqued. I think the best dress was worn by Michelle Dockery of Downton Abbey. Usually, I like things more streamlined but I really like how the black piping sets off the white tiers. And I'm also a huge Downton Abbey fan so maybe I'm a little biased... What was your favorite?

How many of you watched the 68th Emmy Awards last night? I think this is an interesting bit of trivia about the "Emmy." The word Emmy refers to the statuette that’s handed out during the awards ceremony. It was named after a camera tube used in television called an image orthicon, known to those in the industry as Immy. After the members of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences settled on the design of the statuette—a winged woman holding an atom, symbolism intended to convey the uplifting of the art and science of television—they modified Immy to the more overtly feminine Emmy. Who knew?
