Local parents in SPF and Westfield…chances are you’ve heard that there has been an ongoing outbreak locally that has persisted since the summer. While lack of communication between parents may be mostly the source of the persistence, it is also true that most parents/caregivers do not know how to look for lice properly and/or how to identify lice. Visual screening can be highly inaccurate and shouldn’t be relied upon to rule out head lice.

If you are a member of your PTA/PTO/HSA and would like to host an educational meeting to both learn how to do proper checks at home AND earn some money for your organization, get in touch with me. 10 yrs working with lice has taught me that with October come outbreaks and I’ve already seen my first. Be on the lookout!

How amazing that sleep away camps are BACK!!! Now is the time to start planning your pre-departure head checks. With restrictions eased and more people vaccinated, social distancing is falling by the wayside. Less distance means lice have more opportunities to move between hosts. Don’t let your child arrive at camp with lice. It makes for a terrible first day and we’ve ALL had enough terrible days!! Checking two weeks out from departure allows for treatment so they can arrive lice free and ready for FUN!!!
