The Practice of Being Human
A conversation between two lifelong friends who invite you on their journey of self discovery, trial and error, and how they practice being human.
Hosted by Emily Goodrich and Brandi Gordon.
So grateful for the support, it means the world to us ✨❤️
Our bodies are the often overlooked messengers, trying to provide information on not only our physical health but our emotional health. At first these messages are delivered quietly but over time, if ignored, they get louder and louder.
This week, Emily talks through how her journey towards becoming more emotionally healthy directly impacted her physical health and the impact of ignoring the messages her body was sending for too long.
Emily also shares the impact author, Gabby Bernstein has had on her growth and development. Her new book, "Happy Days," focuses on this week's topic and came out at the perfect time to be a supportive source during Emily's journey with health. You can find links to both "Happy Days' and another key book on health, "The Body Keeps Score" by Bessel van der Kolk M.D. on the recommended reading page of the website and linked in our bio.
Join us each week as we chat about growth, spirituality, living more authentically, and trying to practice being human.

This week Emily and Brandi go down the rabbit hole of Human Design. Human Design is a tool for self discovery that brings together principles of The I Ching, astrology, Kabbalah, Hindu-Brahmin chakra system, and quantum physics. This complex and facinating process helps you discover your 'true self' and ultimate purpose.
The two-some are joined by Sam Nelson, Human Designs coach, breath work practitioner and owner of . Sam walks Emily and Brandi through the intricate process of reading a human chart, the 5 main archetypes, and how to use Human Design to live a more authentic life.

Carl Jung defines the false self as a "kind of mask, designed on one hand to make a definite impression upon others, and, on the other, to conceal the true nature of the individual."
On this week's episode, Brandi and Emily curiously explore the idea of the false self and how it holds us back from self discovery and true growth. Who are we beneath the surface? How do we embrace wholeness when society encourages and rewards the idea of a false self? How do we begin the journey of uncovering our authentic self?
Listen this week while Brandi and Emily talk about how setting down their false selves was not and easy process but worth working through, along with all things Carl Jung :) Check out new episodes every Monday. Please like, subscribe, share, and review, your support helps our podcast grow.
Welcome to our brand new Speaking Your Truth series, where we invite amazing women on the podcast to share their personal stories of leaning into the discomfort and what their journey towards living a more authentic life looks like. This week we welcomed Cori Latousek to the podcast to share her personal journey of living a more authentic life. Cori is a fire fighter, member of the LGBTQ community and an active member of the Christian community. Being raised in a very conservative church in Arkansas, Cori was faced reconciling the contradictory views of her church and sexuality. Cori stood in her truth and paved a way that felt true to her. As a result she has become an active voice for LGBTQ teens finding a safe and accepting space in the church and being able to embrace their faith in a way that feels true to them.
Join us each week as we curiously explore what it looks like to live more authentically. Do you know any kick ass women who should share their story on our podcast? Please reach out to us at [email protected] or DM us on IG. We would love to talk to them!

This week Emily and Brandi welcome author of "More Than a Mom", Ashley Carbonatto. The three discuss what it looks like to attempt to authentically and wholly show up in motherhood. From finding and holding onto your identity to the daily grind, Ashley brings her insight and shares how she became a voice for other moms walking through the trenches of motherhood.
For those moms out there, especially in the thick of it, we see you. This is tough work and you are showing up daily. Trying to find your own identity outside of motherhood is a process and one that is always evolving as our role/season of mothering evolves.
Ashley Carbonatto is a domestically underachieving mom-of-three who juggles all the things. She’s a gatherer of people, a welcomer to the outsider, a storyteller to the tired, and an entertainer to the downcast. After leaving a successful career, she re-discovered her voice and renewed purpose in motherhood, but in her own unconventional way. You need homemade frosting? She’s not the one you call. But you need a good story and honest reflection? Ashley’s your woman. She lives in Issaquah, Washington with her husband & three minions, runs an e-commerce wine business so she always has a drink in the fridge for anyone who stops by. You can find her book on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/More-Than-Mom-Everyday-Monotony-ebook/dp/B08FHB9WQC/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?crid=3C0INX1MNLZHP&keywords=more+than+a+mom&qid=1639438534&sprefix=more+than+a+mom%2Caps%2C142&sr=8-1

On Episode 11, Emily and Brandi continue their commitment to exploring and integrating ways to live a more authentic life by welcoming Breath Work practitioner, Kelsey Anderson.
When was the last time you checked in on your breathing? When was the last time you sat in stillness, focusing on nothing more than the rhythm of your breathing? Breath work is one of the most empowering ways we can return to ourselves and stay grounded and centered in our bodies.
Kelsey walks the two-some through the art of breathing and some simple exercises to incorporate into daily routines to encourage connection.
Kelsey is a Reiki Master, Doula, and Intuitive Energy Healer focusing on creating space for acceptance, openness, and healing. After turning to breathwork practice in her own life for managing anxiety, she made a shift away from her corporate career as a Management Consultant and followed her calling into this healing work. She focuses on bringing her knowledge and passion to life through her writing and healing work, turning to her personal journey for inspiration and insight. Whether leading group breathwork sessions, focusing on 1:1 client support, or creating on demand tools and resources, she is always learning, growing, creating, and shifting to bring her authentic self to this work.
Most recently she’s enjoying the seasons of motherhood and, through her doula training and her own postpartum journey, is incorporating her energy work and breathwork practice in supporting women postpartum.
Kelsey truly believes in the power of the mind-body-spirit connection and how energy healing and breathwork helps you bring balance to your life, get in tune with your Life Force Energy, raise your vibration, and live the life most authentic to you.
You can schedule a private session with Kelsey or learn more about her at Rooted Flow Mama on IG and FB.

This week we discuss the complex topic of grief and what it looks like to embrace the emotions that surround the process.
Today is National Children’s Grief Awareness Day. Grief can be unbearable, especially if you are left to navigate that journey alone. We are sending light and love to anyone who has ever experienced grief, please know you always have space held for you our hearts and our community ❤️
In Episode 09, Brandi and Emily discuss the concept of grief. Brandi shares her personal experience losing her dad and what it was like for the grief to catch up with her 5 years after his death.
Grief is a complex emotion and process that requires both compassion and patience in order to fully embrace it and eventually make it to the other side. However, in the opinion of both Brandi and Emily, modern society does not hold space for the grieving. Typically grief is met with discomfort, a timeline, and a projected impatience from those who are witnessing the pain of another. Brandi and Emily explore these ideas and also provide some action items to help those who are grieving.
How have you personally experienced grief? What has helped in your moments of pain and how did you process these powerful emotions that should not be overlooked? Let us know in the comments below or reach out to us if you would like to share your personal story on our podcast.

On Episode 08 Emily and Brandi explore the complicated and interconnected concepts of Forgiveness, Amends, and Reconciliation.
Here are their working definitions of the three concepts. Recognizing that all of them take deep internal work and by doing so, they could externally offer apologies, make amends and potentially reconcile…if was healthy and authentic to do so.
Tune in to catch these working definitions and how, through experience, they arrived at them.
