I have been witness to some beautiful Black storytelling this week! From Like Fine Wine, Black Joy Over Time Presents: Dr. W. Joye Hardiman's screening at the Seattle Black Film Festival, to Delbert Richardson's story, The Lion Tells It's Tale, Black Folks have been OUT HERE whispering, speaking, shoutin', testifying and spillin' all the tea!

This month in the Joy Corridor, I get to speak with members of my Black Oral Historian Family at the Seattle Black Spatial Histories Intitute about the beauty of Black Stories!

Get Ready for The Joy Of Telling Our Stories, with Brooklyn Jamerson-Flowers!

Brooklyn Jamerson-Flowers is a storyteller. At work, her current job title is Lead Storyteller. On the side, she produces We the (Black) People: An American History Podcast and conducts oral histories for the Seattle Black Spatial Histories Institute. When asked who she is uninterrupted she says "In good conversation with good people."

Listen to Brooklyn's podcast We,The (Black) People on Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts, and check her out at on Instagram and Facebook!

I cannot wait for y'all to hear from Chevon Powell, Founder of Golden Brick Events!!!! Chevon brings a lot of love, care and joy to the world through outdoor events and camping festivals for Black and Brown folks. She is delightful!
As always, Thursday, 4pm PST on 105.7 FM or stream live on www.kvru.org
This is from the Golden Brick Events website:
Unbelievable. When founder Chevon Powell was questioned by law enforcement during a solo backpacking trip in Vermont, she was told her reason for being in the area was ‘unbelievable’. This experience, though unfortunate, is not uncommon for many BIPOC recreationalists. Inspired by the desire to have spaces where people of color could connect with nature, Chevon began her own outdoor-focused BIPOC-centered event production company, Golden Bricks Events. In 2018, she launched its signature festival, Refuge Outdoor Festival, to serve as a space where BIPOC could take “refuge” in the majesty of the great outdoors. Since then the company has expanded its offerings and reach, challenging what is ‘believable’ for BIPOC outside.
