Before/After
This lovely garden had been neglected for a year. A lot of weeding and heavy pruning. The dogwood was brushing against the siding - cleaned up wayward branches. Several of the plants had been pruned incorrectly/several dead branches. It will take a few months of regular watering, new compost layer and consistent weeding but should be gleaming come fall.
What will you do today for YOU?!
Fantastic training today learning new techniques for the posterior and anterior neck!
Back in the training studio since April and it feels so good to help clients move their bodies💪
Chilly, damp days in the PNW are a great opportunity to make a warm, soul-satisfying soup. Today we whipped up a pale ale cauliflower soup with crumbled applewood smoked rosemary bacon!
Years ago I stayed with a friend and she had a jar of Tamari Roasted Almonds in her fridge. I finally got around to making my own batch and wow, they make a great small snack and/or for a salad topping.
300 degree oven
Raw almonds - 2cups
Place almonds in single layer on baking pan
Bake for 10 minutes. Flip. Bake another 10 minutes.
Pull from oven and place in large bowl. Turn off oven. Pour 1/8 cup low sodium tamari. Stir all the almonds are coated. Drizzle a small amount of toasted sesame oil. Stir. Place almonds back on pan and return to oven to dry. When completely dry - pour into a container.
I store mine in a glass jar in the fridge.
Enjoy!
Small group classes started this week! The current classes are full however if you would like to start one of your own with a friend or two, DM me and we will find a day and time that works💪
Peperonata with burrata - a rustic traditional side dish from Southern Italy
I used to make this recipe all the time and then forgot about it! Well, I made it last night and remembered how tasty it is!
Variety of bell peppers sliced thin (3 or 4)
2 pints cherry tomatoes
2 smashed garlic cloves
Pinch of pink Himalayan salt
Pinch of red pepper flakes
2 T fresh thyme leaves
1 T fresh oregano leaves
1 T balsamic vinegar
Sauté above ingredients in 1/3 c olive oil for 10-15 minutes.
Place 2 burrata balls on plate and surround with pepper mixture. Add torn basil leaves and voila! Serve with baguette slices or your favorite country loaf. Leftovers are delicious tossed with pasta!
All the allium bulbs made it through the winter! I planted 50 in various areas last autumn and now they are standing tall and proud. Talk about head turners-WOWZA! These are great for repelling mosquitoes and deterring critters in the garden.
Something old, something new, memories of clients and intoxicating perfumes!
I finally put together this superbly retro lucite étagère I found months ago and rearranged the treatment room. Spring cleaning in The Body Atelier!
A few pieces are gifts from some of my clients who have passed on; new Pendleton blanket to keep clients warm and cozy; the bottom shelf is a collection of vintage glassware holding lovely aromatic potions and lastly, my favorite body cleansers, little flower candles and nourishing body oils from red flower - available for purchase to bring home with you!

3 drops of lavender oil
3 drops of chamomile oil
2 drops of orange oil
1 drop of clove oil
1 drop of rosemary oil
* Safety note: Always dilute pure essential oils using a carrier oil like almond oil.

Honey roasted carrots with herb oil & goat cheese
Fantastic summer side dish! Scrub carrots well (I never usually peel fruits/veggies as the skin is where all the magic/health benefits are), toss with a couple of tablespoons of olive oil, one tablespoon of raw honey. Roast in 450 oven until charred. Sprinkle with goat cheese and herb oil.
Herb oil:
1/4 c chopped fresh dil
1/4 c chopped fresh parsley
1/3 c olive oil
Pinch of ground pepper, Himalayan pink salt
Red pepper flakes
Combine in bowl and spoon over carrots.
Recipe courtesy of Half Baked Harvest
Coneflowers! Striking when planted in masses. Attracts butterflies, bees, songbirds (fantastic pollinators)…loves heat, trouble-free once established and a tough upright perennial.
Two of my favorites: the Big Kahuna and Double Scoop.
Another winner from Half-Baked Harvest!
roasted banana bread with dark chocolate and a crinkly top
4 medium overly ripe bananas, mashed (about 1 1/4 cup mashed)
1/4 cup melted coconut oil
1/4 cup honey
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups whole wheat pastry flour, or all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1 cup semi-sweet or dark chocolate chunks
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9x5 inch bread pan.
2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the bananas (unpeeled) on sheet and roast for 30-25 minutes.
3. In a large mixing bowl, stir together the mashed bananas, coconut oil, honey, eggs, and vanilla until combined. Add the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt, mix until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chunks.
4. Pour the batter into the prepared bread pan. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until center is just set. Remove and let cool for at least 30 minutes before cutting...or just eat it warm with a smear of butter and a drizzle of honey (you should do this!). Enjoy!
I tried a new recipe from one of my favorite blogs - Half Baked Harvest.
Can you guess what this is going to be?!
Building on the classic French slaw-like salad - céleri rémoulade.
Celery root, shredded chicken, Granny Smith apple, parsley, fennel…toss with a dressing of mayonnaise, whole grain mustard, capers, lemon juice. Sprinkle with toasted chopped walnuts and serve on a bed of rocket. Delish and refreshing for summer.
Quinoa Enchilada Bake - Meatless Monday
Quinoa, black beans, diced green chilies, shredded Mexican cheese blend, corn, cilantro, red onion, cumin, chili powder and green enchilada sauce.
Bake for 30 minutes. Top with avocado slices and a dollop of sour cream.
I am loving these precious blooms I discovered last spring - Sweet Lewisia, named after Meriwether Lewis (of the explorers, Lewis & Clark) due to his encounter of the plant in Montana back in 1803.
The Native American community first referred to this plant as bitterroot, as it is a very valuable and tasty source of food that can be foraged all throughout western North America.
Lewisias are native plants to western North America. They grow all over British Columbia, Washington, Southern Oregon, the Sierra Nevada, and are prosperous all throughout western states as well. They are actually the state flower of Montana!
I took this photo in my client’s garden where I planted a group of these little gems along the top of their rockery next to a big patch of happy oregano. The flowers are gorgeous!
bananabread w/ toasted wheat germ and ginger
Just enough crunch on the crust and moist center. Recipe from rebar modern cookbook. The recipe calls for walnuts which I did not use but probably would be just as delicious.

Favorite new salad - Steamed forbidden black rice, grilled sweet corn, cherry tomatoes, chopped scallions, fresh squeezed lime juice and lime zest, tablespoon of chia seeds, chopped cilantro and drizzle of olive oil. Toss and eat!
Prep for pumpkin millet muffins w/ cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg
One of my favorite fall recipes! Toasting the millet and pumpkin seeds in a hot dry skillet imparts a wonderful nutty flavor.

Pizza night!
I tried a new recipe on the left - olive oil base, crumbled blue cheese, fresh sliced figs and topped with prosciutto. After you pull it out of the oven, a drizzle of aged balsamic vinegar, fresh ground pepper and chopped scallions. Savory & delicious!

slow-cooked chicken with a crispy corn crust
I only had harissa, not rose harissa, therefore I added a tablespoon plus of orange blossom water along with the harissa. This fogged the kitchen in a delicious, sweet aroma! I am now searching for rose harissa…as I am curious to what scents will be created!
Be sure to cook the chicken long enough so it is easily separated with a fork. Be prepared-this meal was fantastic.

soba, cardamom, lime & avocado
I wasn’t sure how this would taste when I first glanced over the ingredient list. However, I had a couple of just right avocados and wanted to use them up. This dish is definitely different, in a very good way! Fresh-squeezed limes, basil, cilantro, lime zest and pistachios bring it all together.

Looking better each day! Our client wanted a flower cutting garden…she’s got it! Dahlias, cosmos, gladiolas, daisies-bursting with blooms!
