Self love is not selfish! Remind yourself of that. Especially in your seasons of business when stress creeps in more than usual. Or if you are hanging on to past emotions or trauma you NEED to find ways to let it out.

Iā€™ve been spending lots of needed time doing stretching, yoga, mindfulness and other practices to reduce my stress level along with other ways of detoxifying to let the toxins in my body go.

Disease = Dis ease. When your body gets stuck in trauma or stress mode you set yourself up for illness. That may be a cold, flu, fatigue, chronic inflammation, cancer and other diseases.

I have learned so much after my own cancer diagnosis now more than ever how important it is to take time for myself and relax and do what I need to let my stress go. Iā€™ve learned to listen to to my body. And while I often prefer to put others first, I canā€™t be my true self if Iā€™m not taking care of myself first.

Oh how I needed to hear this! Itā€™s ok to be sad or disappointed about our struggles and hardships. Sometimes we just need someone to listen who can say ā€œI understand.ā€

I sure hope my struggles will help someone else someday!

Iā€™m so happy the leaves havenā€™t all fallen yet and we had a very nice day for getting outside to walk/hike. This is my favorite time of year and for me itā€™s very motivating to get outside to enjoy the weather and the leaves and hike! Iā€™ll miss this very soon. What motivates you to be active?

10/16/2023

Thankful I can walk to this view to un-wind and de-stress after a busy day. These last few years have really opened my eyes to needing to care for myself and reduce stress! Find time for yourself any way you enjoy and make it a priority! Your body as a whole will thank you for it or rebel if you donā€™t!

Beautiful evening to get out on the lake on the paddle board. So much nicer when the majority of the boats are off the lake. So peaceful, serene. My happy place.

Lymphedema is something I hoped as a healthy, younger, active person would not affect me. I was convinced I would be fine when I went through radiationā€¦it would be the easiest part of cancer treatment. I was wrong. The effects will linger with me forever. Lately I wear my sleeve almost daily. Especially if Iā€™m active.

Now Iā€™m itching to learn as much as I can about lymphedema. I hope my experiences can help others someday.

I cannot wait for warmer weather and time to get out on the paddle board!!! ā¤ļø

How is Breast Cancer Caused? 10/26/2022

Found this article to be very informative for breast cancer awareness. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with some type of breast cancer. Information is key and know your body! I donā€™t know much about the products on this site but this explains things well. Please remember to do your self breast exams monthly! Donā€™t be afraid to advocate for yourself if you thing something may be abnormal!

Been thinking about this a lot these last few weeks. Many of us (Iā€™m guilty too) only post the best of the best on social mediaā€¦not sharing the normal everyday pains we are quietly dealing with at home. When someone asks how you are itā€™s a given ā€œgoodā€ or ā€œfineā€. But I want you to know struggle is a given in life. Itā€™s often the best way for us to grow, change, and become a better person. Oftenā€¦it may do the opposite too. But we are meant to learn throughout our entire life and improve ourselves. That being saidā€¦we NEED to be ok talking about our pain and struggles and find a solid base and support system to pick us up when we fall or waiver. This video is amazing! YOU have the choice of what to do with your struggles in lifeā€¦will you let it consume you and break you downā€¦or will you let it shape you into a better person and will you choose to find some positivity in that experience?

I was just thinking about this over the weekend. While Iā€™m still very budget/savings focused, these days the priority to live life and have those experiences I want definitely is taking priority.

Life is too short and while Iā€™m still trying to make wise decisions, Iā€™m much more willing to go do those things I would have hesitated on in the past with that little reminder in the back of my head that ā€œtomorrow isnā€™t guaranteed.ā€

All of this!!! Itā€™s so important to know your body, and then have anything out of the ordinary checked out!

It can be tricky to know what to look for when it comes to breast cancer. You know about that lump. But, did you know there's way more to look for? Blame it on how complicated breast cancer is. It's not one disease. Nope. It's a collection of more than a dozen diseases, also called subtypes. Some of which are challenging to diagnose. And, the medical community may be getting set to add yet another to that collection: HER2-low.

You don't need to know each subtype. Instead focus on what to look for. Because not every subtype forms a lump. And, some have symptoms that don't make you think breast cancer. They might make you think dermatologist. Or, they may not even make you think twice. Here's what to know so you do.

Look for skin changes. Color changes, especially to red or purple. Dimpling and pitting that might make your skin look like an orange peel. Even skin thickening. Also, look for itchy, red bumps that may remind you of eczema.

Watch for changes in breast size and feel. Swelling can be a symptom, so can tenderness. Your breast may even just feel heavier, says an American Cancer Society (ACS) article. And, it doesn't even have to be the entire breast. It can be part of your breast, says a Cleveland Clinic article, adding. "you may feel a fullness, thickening or swelling in one area that feels different from the surrounding area." Sometimes it can feel warm, the ACS article says. And while you're looking for swelling, keep your eye on your armpits. Lymph nodes that swell there or near the collarbone could be a sign of breast cancer, the ACS article warns.

Be on the lookout for ni**le changes. Like flattening. A newly inverted ni**le. Skin changes on the ni**le and ar**la that might mimic eczema. You might feel itchy and tingling in that area, according to a National Cancer Institute fact sheet. See redness or "flaky crusty and/or thickened skin." And be watchful for ni**le discharge that could look yellowish or bloody

If you have any of these symptoms, does it mean you have breast cancer? No. But, it's something important to know, especially if your symptoms don't clear up. The other thing is the three subtypes more likely to have some of these symptoms can be harder for doctors to see on mammograms. Or, they might not show up at all. Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC), lobular breast cancer and paget's disease of the ni**le. "IBC doesn't look like a typical breast cancer. It often does not cause a breast lump, and it might not show up on a mammogram. This makes it harder to diagnose," says the ACS article.

Same with lobular. Says the Cleveland Clinic article, it is "the second most common type of breast cancer, accounting for about 10% to 15% of all invasive breast cancers." Even though it's common enough, it still may not be diagnosed because of these problems until "the cancer is large enough to cause symptoms," says the article. For paget's disease, which is very rare, both mammograms and ultrasounds catch the cancer only 50% of the time, according to a Science Direct report. And none of this accounts for whether or not you have dense breast tissue. That can block any type of breast cancer from showing up on your imaging. It happened to Good Day Orlando anchor Amy Kaufeldt in May. She felt a lump. Her mammo saw nothing. She's now recovering from her breast cancer surgery.

Now you know. Breast cancer is complicated. Some of those subtypes even have their own subtypes. It can be hard even for the breast cancer community to keep up. Your takeaway? Look for more than a lump. And if you end up needing screening for a breast concern, know your mammo may not be enough. Keep pressing for testing until you get the answers you want. No one will protect your never had breast cancer status like you will. It's important. And you're worth it.

Sarah sent you a Pin! 06/21/2022

After a week of being ā€œhomelessā€ my body is starting to revolt from eating out. I have been missing vegetables from my diet especially over the weekend and it seemed nothing on any menu in the area we were staying was sounding good. I cannot wait to move into our new home and restock the fridge and eat healthy again!

This morning I searched and saved several recipes. My body longs for the Mediterranean foods below with all the colors and fresh veggies! Iā€™m in need of a detox!!!
