The things I get excited about these days...WORMS...literally the most worms I've ever seen in my aged chicken compost that's making its way to the garden🤩

Happy Earth Day!! In honor of this day, I'm sharing some photos of our natural backyard that we are "rewilding"" (aka not mowing and certainly not spraying). It's actually kind of amazing to learn what comes up naturally and how much of it can be useful...food source for pollinators, edible, medicinal, skin care, etc. These "weeds" have way more uses than "grass". Gotta love nature!!

Here's some of what we've encountered so far:
Wild geranium
Wild violets
Clover
Vetch
Henbit
Plantain
Flax
Dandelion
Fleabane

Well the plants are still standing...maybe leaning a little 🫠...after this WILD wind!!

This Sunday I will be "opening" for sales of tomatoes and peppers. I will be on site 10AM-2PM Sunday with tomatoes and peppers and remaining herbs for anyone that wants to come out and pick up plants for their summer garden!! The address is 400 Marion Beavers Rd, Sharpsburg

You can also place an order by messaging me your request, with pick up Sunday or anytime thereafter (with approx 12 hours lead time during the week).

Lastly, regarding sizing and pricing, some varieties are being sold in 1 gal pots and others in 3.5" pots (which I have used in previous years). The larger plants were started in January and smaller ones in Feb/March. The picture below is for size reference.

Tomatoes will be $3 small/$6 large
Peppers will be $4 small/$8 large

I'll also offer 20% off for any purchases over $30.

(I'll be updating my last post to specify which varieties are small vs large size)

Let me know if you have any other questions and hope to see you Sunday!

I have definitely put more time and effort into growing peppers this year, but unfortunately I have a somewhat limited availability for tomatoes as a result (time and space limitations).

Cherokee purple and brandywine tomatoes have been potted up to 1 gal size pots, as have several varieties of peppers, so most plants are decent size with blooms or fruits already😀

Current status...peppers and tomatoes are finishing hardening off, now that night temps are finally staying above 50 😁😁. Plants will be available by this weekend!

These warm days have made it REAL tempting to want to plant summer veggies already... but patience is a virtue!!

Looking at 30 degree lows tomorrow night 🥶🥶

This is also why I won't sell summer veggie plants until late March or early April, even though I have plants ready and people asking...soon though!!💚

Photos from L8dy Bug Farm's post 03/04/2024

Just a little photo update from today, everything is growing well so far! I plan to start selling herbs March 23 weekend and tomatoes/peppers/etc the last week or March or first of April, depending on weather and hardening off.

*New this year: super hot peppers!! (Ghost, Carolina Reaper, and Moruga Trinidad Scorpion)

Be sure to follow for updates! 🪴🪴

It's that time of year! Growing spaces are filling up!

I'm always asked where I grow my plants...the answer...my basement!

Seedlings start out in a large tent with heaters, fans, and grow lights and gradually move up to less controlled environments. Peppers and tomatoes are the last to go outside because they need temps over 50-55 degrees.

One of these years I'll get a REAL greenhouse 😛😛

01/15/2024

Hope everyone's New Year is off to a great start! We've started ours out by making a real web page😁

We have a couple new products (homemade salves) that are available, and we will be listing more garden plants soon, as planting season will be right around the corner 👍

Purchases can be made on the site or by reaching out to me here. We will still prepare orders and have them available for pick up at the farm stand like we always have.

Check it out!!

If you know anyone in need of a turkey this year, please PM me. I'll have one to donate and would love it to go to someone who needs a little extra help this year.

Sharing so I can laugh at this later.

Not all homesteading "projects" turn out well...

Learned the hard way that when dehydrated hot peppers (forgotten in the oven) get pre-heated, they very quickly burn and become a vaporized pepper spray!!

The smoke will fill every room of the house, burn your eyes and throat, send you and your pets into coughing fits and force you to leave the house to get the dinner you were supposed to be making.

Fair to say dinner was on me 😛

When the fall garden meets summer garden 😍😍

10/10/2023

Long post warning😬😬....

A month ago my world got shaken up a bit. My dad had a an unexpected and pretty serious fall while hiking and fractured his C2 vertebrae. He underwent surgery and now requires some ongoing medical care. My eager plans for fall gardening and plant sales got put on the back burner as I've been traveling back and forth to Indiana (where my parents live) these last few weeks.

Thankfully my dad is recovering well🙌 but any positive thoughts are prayers will still be VERY welcome over these next few months.

I've been blessed that All For Her Refillery has been gracious enough to offer me a spot in her lovely new shop in downtown Sharpsburg.

While I don't have a huge quantity of plants available at this time, I am offering some seasonal herbs and lettuces, propagated houseplant cuttings and homemade skin salves that were made with plants grown at L8dy Bug Farm.

Even if you don't need any plants, come check out this awesome new store!!!

Welcome our newest vendor, L8dy Bug Farm!!

Come on in and grab a plant and refill on your self care and cleaning products Thursday-Saturday this week from 9am-1pm and 5pm-8pm… or shop after Eric Carle’s From Head to Toe story time + coloring if you attend 🙂

Also, our grand opening is 11/11!!!! GRAND OPENING (limited hours until grand opening, come on in!) We are in our soft launch period which means limited products and hours, but please still come visit us until then!! with the grand opening will come more refillery products all month long, an in store giveaway, maybe a bounce house 🤭, more events paid and free, and more curated vendor items. I’ll also have opportunities for other creatives to host classes and be paid. So if you have a class you’re interested in teaching that related to sustainable living in any way, reach out!

Just waiting for cooler temps so these plants can go outside!

Isn't this the truth...🥵🥵🥵🫠🫠🫠

08/16/2023

Running a couple weeks behind my target, but we've got some lettuce, greens and herbs started up for FALL 😁😁.

I know I'm excited to get this HOT weather behind us and fall is actually a great time for gardening in Georgia 🍁🍃.

I'll update when plant starts are ready for purchase.

Photos from L8dy Bug Farm's post 08/11/2023

I was excited to find some passion flower vines ("may pop" which is a native flower in Georgia) at the edge of the property a couple months ago. I transplanted a couple plants so I could put them in my garden. Next thing I know caterpillars are completely devouring these plants.

Come to find out these caterpillars are that of the Gulf Fritillary which feeds exclusively on the Maypop flower. I was able to find the chrysalis of the Gulf Fritillary and today the butterfly emerged and we released it!!
