Winter ’21 Honors Lecture Series | UW & Fred Hutch Scientists Speak with Honors: Shifting from HIV to Sars-CoV-2 (COVID) Research:

Three scientists from University of Washington and Fred Hutch will speak to Honors students and faculty as the featured speakers for the Honors Lecture Series this quarter. The presenters will start with a 20-30 minute presentation on the following topics followed by a Q&A.

Pandemic and COVID:
• Past, present and future but particularly how do we know and prepare for what’s coming?
• Any comments about COVID in general—how it works as a virus, how it’s mutating…what we know and don’t know so far.
Vaccines:
• What is your opinion about each of the vaccines on the market? Differences?
• We’ve heard new mutation will be dominant strain by March: how does that effect current vaccines—which ones will be able to protect us? Are there changes being made to vaccines?
Science and scientific community
• Are there particular scientific organizations /countries that are leading the research? That other scientists listen to the most? Where is UW and other local organizations on that list?
General Public and General Questions
• Where are the holes in our public conversations? What do you wish we knew or were talking about? What can you tell us that we aren't hearing on the news?
