The skewer
The skewer, or Gladiolus, is a genus of perennial bulbous bulbous plants of the Iris family.
These gladioli were bright red or purple-pink in color, were popularly called panicles and were considered weeds.
The first mention of the gladiolus dates back to the 1st century AD, to the era of Ancient Rome. Wild species of gladiolus - Gladiolus segentum - were described by the Greek physician Dioscorides (50s AD).
