Though the outcome of yesterday’s school board election was not what I had hoped for, I’m happy with my decision to take part in the race! I have learned so much throughout this process. I’m immensely grateful to everyone who exercised their right to vote. Behind every thriving farm is a resilient woman who helps cultivate more than just four-legged friends and crops. 🌾

My mother stands as the backbone of our family farm operation—managing the books; cooking the meals; driving tractors; sorting and herding cattle. On top of that, she prioritizes her family just below her faith.

She embodies the strength and grace that often goes unnoticed in farming. She lives a life of dedication, selflessness, and hard work.

I was invited by The Stockyards Ag Experience to promote my strong roots in agriculture and to give a nod to the values instilled by being . Happily! But I can’t do that without also promoting this amazing woman, my mom! I cherish the life lessons learned and the qualities derived from a childhood on the farm, and I thank God for the example He blessed me with.

Even though my life’s journey has led me off the farm, I know my early years in agriculture shaped me into the person I am today! I’m proud to support the Stockyards Ag Experience and their work that bridges the gap between consumers and producers!

🌟 Reflecting on a weekend full of joy, excitement, (and honestly exhaustion😂) after a weekend with Embrace Church - 57th Street Campus middle schoolers at the Byron Bible Camp. 🙌 Amidst the energy, I observed something profound—parallels between the decisions made by these young souls and the intricate choices we face in adulthood. Here are 4 points that stood out to me on the common threads of decision-making at different stages of life:

1️⃣ Commitment to Presence: Just as these kids chose to be present at the retreat, adults commit to various aspects of their lives. Whether it's a career path, relationships, or personal growth, the decision to be present and fully engaged is universal.

2️⃣ Faith and Belief: Young minds deciding to commit their lives to God echoes the faith we put into our aspirations, dreams, and life goals. The choice to believe in oneself and pursue a path aligns with the spiritual commitment made during this retreat.

3️⃣ Peer Support: Witnessing kids supporting one another reminds us of the importance of a strong support system. (And, dang, it really fills my heart and fills me with pride in our young people!!) In adulthood, decisions often involve collaboration, seeking advice, and relying on the strength of our relationships just like these youngsters did over the weekend.

4️⃣ Endurance and Growth: The mix of fun, excitement (and exhaustion🙋‍♀️) mirrors the professional journey. Decision-making in both stages requires resilience, adaptability, and the understanding that growth often comes from embracing challenges.

Life changes and things happen all around you, so here is a reminder to be present. To have a greater appreciation for the wisdom in decisions made at every age, recognizing that the essence of commitment, faith, support, and growth is a constant thread throughout life!

Sometimes life brings stressful situations.

I mentor each week at one of the local Sioux Falls schools through LSS of South Dakota. And these are the words from a middle school student counselor to a student that was being defiant and blatantly disrespectful after he said that he was stressed and just didn’t want to go to class.

Believe it or not, it wasn’t just that 7th grader that needed to hear those words. I had just come from a meeting that didn’t have a positive outcome.

A note to school counselors, your work is so incredibly important. Your patience, kindness, and ability to bring structure and purpose to the lives of our students is so meaningful and impactful! To you, thank you!

A note to myself (and anyone else who needs to hear it today), carry on. Navigating stress is part of life’s journey. 😊
