The Secret Fork
Honest, frank commentary on the eating, drinking, and food scene in Sioux Falls, SD, and other places.
Apparently, Hy-Vee figured out how to utilize all those restaurant spaces they created, re-created, and then de-created. Hy-Vee Law Enforcement Center coming soon!
Watch for Hy-Vee Jail, Hy-Vee Court, and Hy-Vee Parole Services next.
Honestly, people! How damned out of touch can Hy-Vee really be? (That’s a rhetorical question, BTW).
Hy-Vee to add security officers in stores You'll soon be seeing security officers at Hy-Vee.

In my Sunday morning crock pot
So cold I’m wishing I was stoned
But the governor won’t let us!
At least there’s chili when I get home.
I’ll be nothing short of starving
Half as crazy as that sounds
So I’ll also bake some cornbread
Crock pot Sunday coming down.

Well. It was probably bound to happen. I notice social media posts that 18th Amendment and Barrel House are presently closed due to COVID infections. Both are planning to re-open the week of August 3.
Be careful out there, people!

Hey, all you Cool Cutlery and Forkinistas!
A couple thoughts for folks anticipating the first steps of a "return to normalcy" whatever that means, with the gradual opening of food and beverage establishments.
1. This crap ain't over yet. I didn't see Governor Noem parachute into the USS South Dakota Memorial to declare victory over COVID-19. The virus continues to lurk among us. Just because civic leaders think we can relax some business restrictions isn't a green light to relax personal protective measures. Whether you are planning on venturing out, or not, remaining vigilant is good advice.
2. Set your expectations accordingly. Things are probably not going to look, sound, or feel the same when you get back to your favorite haunts. Besides increased spacing, expect lighter crowds (some people aren't personally ready for this), staff wearing masks or gloves, decreased menu options, and wonky service. A lot of these establishments and their staffs haven't been in action for the better part of 60 days and it may take a while to get back in the hang of things.
3. This whole thing isn't just about you. I've heard reports of regular patrons and random callers getting snarky with owners and managers who are taking a more cautious approach to re-opening. Lay the hell off and give these people a break. They have a lot of balancing to do between their own staff, and getting supplies, and plenty of other things that most patrons never consider when ordering a beer or a burger. If your favorite haunt decides to take a more cautious approach, respect it. Or, if you can't respect it, at least don't be a jerk.
Be careful out there!
Your local establishments and their employees need you now more than ever!
