🏗👷 The Harbor Center expansion is moving along! Slab complete; beams going up; interior wall/construction zone now barricaded. Still aiming for completion by July/August 2024 and then there will be an additional 9,000+ feet of meeting space added to The Harbor Center! Plus a second entrance/lobby! 🏤

Still exploring avenues to secure a hotel partner to become part of our overall plan to have all convention/event services (exhibit hall, meeting rooms, hotel) at one site. 🏢

“The Center Of It All”

As December, and the end of 2023, approaches, I’m reflecting on my legal career … beginning in 1986 fresh out of Tulane Law School, and many years litigating in courts across the Southeast, to my decision in 1995 to start incorporating ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution, e.g. mediation and arbitration) into my practice, to 2009 when (after a 14 year effort) I was able to make ADR my full time practice. Since my entry into mediation, I’ve moved my focus to relationship-oriented conflict resolution (divorce, custody, support, community property,
ElderCare, workplace conflict, EEO, business disputes, etc.). I’ve mediated - by a rough estimate - 2,000+ cases and have helped create at least 1,000+ child custody implementation plans.
This year marks more than 28 years as a mediator and arbitrator, 14 of them doing it full-time. I’ve served many years as an ADR Section Council Member of the Louisiana State Bar, and manage the state’s Official Mediator Register. Last year, I began working with the Federal Court assisting with a mediation program for hurricane claims, and will remain on that select panel of mediators through conclusion of those cases. I look back on all this with satisfaction for those decisions and where it led me to today. Thanks to everyone who helped me along the way…I look forward to continuing for at least a few more years! What do they say? “When you love what you’re doing, it’s not work.” I guess that fits.

Thanksgiving in the rear view mirror and looking forward to Christmas! Family took care of our annual Christmas photo a bit differently by visiting the “Christmas Miracle Bar” pop-up
at The Station Sports Bar and Grill in Baton Rouge. Fully covered in Christmas decor and specialty cocktails in cool mugs/glasses! Yes, the stick-on moustaches are part of a family tradition…several FB-shy family members so I can’t post the group…

Ground Breaking ceremony at The Harbor Center meeting rooms expansion! Thanks to everyone who attended and to all our supporters.

Martin Bruno was a true community steward for his Slidell community. I served with him on The Harbor Center Board of Commissioners and always appreciated his dedication and well-informed advice. I will miss having him at our meetings (he had just retired from our Board a month ago!) and, especially, I will miss the dry humor he was always willing to share. A gentleman, a civic leader, a man of faith and family, a friend. R.I.P. Martin and my wishes to Eileen for a full recovery. To the Bruno extended family, my sympathy for this loss - and my prayers as you travel the path towards acceptance at his absence as well as many memories of his life.
