As hair care connoisseurs, one question we’re often asked is:
What’s the difference between genetic and reactive hair loss?
And it’s a fair question!
While they are both types of hair loss, the main differences between the two are the factors that cause them.
As you probably suspected, genetic hair loss entails a genetic predisposition to thinning hair.
This kind of hair loss is usually due to a follicular sensitivity to male s*x hormones — specifically, dihydrotestosterone.
This sensitivity causes follicle miniaturization — shrinking of the hair follicles.
With each passing hair growth cycle, the follicles produce shorter and thinner hairs.
On the other hand, reactive hair loss is usually triggered by an event. Some examples include chronic illness, internal imbalance, extreme stress, or nutritional deficiency.
The culprit behind this type of hair loss may be harder to pinpoint, especially if there hasn’t been any significant change in your life. But once you do identify the cause, it’s generally easier to treat than genetic hair loss.
We hope you found this helpful! And if you’d like to learn more about hair loss, or want to know more about your treatment options, just shoot us a message or give us a call so we can help you out :)
Hair loss can be a very personal challenge for a person to deal with.
But it’s nice to know we’re not alone!
At this point, you’ve probably heard of hair thinning and hair loss — but did you know they’re not the same thing?
It comes as quite a shock to some folks.
So allow us to clear up the confusion:
Hair thinning occurs gradually over time. It usually begins at the temples, scalp, or parting line and moves downward from the crown of the head.
The most common culprits of thinning hair are hormonal imbalances, health conditions, and other genetic factors
As such, treatment typically involves hormone or vitamin supplements to correct any imbalances or deficiencies.
Hair loss, on the other hand, is abrupt. It occurs when an extrinsic factor stops the hair from growing.
There’s typically an eliciting event that disrupts the metabolic activity of the hair follicle during its growth cycle.
For example, having a baby causes a lot of stress and trauma to the body. This kind of stressor can lead to postpartum hair loss.
However, hair loss usually resolves once the initial event or stressor subsides.
We hope this helps!

The terms ‘hair loss’ and ‘hair thinning’ are interchangeable.
So you want to brush up on your hair care knowledge, hey?
Well, let’s see how much you remember ;)
With the ongoing chaos of daily life and the endless list of tasks to keep up with, hair care is probably one of the last things on your mind.

We want to change that.
That’s why we’re committed to giving you the hair care you deserve to keep those locks luscious and full :)

Let’s test your hair loss knowledge:
You inherit genetic hair loss from your mother’s side of the family?
Everyone’s hair loss experience is different — and so is their preferred treatment plan.
So now we want to ask you:
What does your hair loss treatment involve?
Hair loss does not discriminate — it can happen to anyone. And everyone experiences it differently.
What has your hair loss journey looked like?
To us, a good hair care regimen involves a combination of the right products, application methods, supplements, and techniques.
But we recognize that hair care regimens can look differently to different people!
So we want to know: what does a good hair care regimen look like to you?

Hoping to treat your hair loss, but don’t know where to start?
Don’t worry — we’re here to help!
Our biggest tip is to make an appointment with a dermatologist or trichologist.
These are the guys — or gals — who can identify the culprit behind your hair loss.
From there, your doctor will help you come up with a treatment plan that best suits your needs.
Some of the options they may suggest are:
-Rogaine: an over-the-counter medication that you apply to your scalp. It works by slowing hair loss and accelerating regrowth rates over the span of several months.
-Spironolactone or other hormone treatments: a prescription medication that addresses hormone-related hair loss. It slows down androgen production and reduces excess dihydrotestosterone levels, which can cause the hair follicles to shrink.
-Hair Transplant: a noninvasive surgical procedure that handles treatment-resistant hair loss. The surgeon removes strips of hair from one part of the scalp and moves them to the thinning areas.
Or you can just some of our Organic and natural hair serum to help with your hair growth.

Everyone likes to kick back, relax, and enjoy a good movie from time to time.
We’re no exception.
So now we want to know:
What’s your favorite movie about hair?
We’ll go first: Hairspray 😊
Let’s see how well you understand hair loss treatment:
Minoxidil and Rogaine are the same thing.
Despite what you may have heard, hair loss doesn’t have to be inevitable.
Just follow these simple maintenance tips to prevent damage and save your strands 😉
Our first tip is to avoid styles that pull on the hair!
Hair fibers have some degree of flexibility — but they can only stretch so far before they’re damaged.
Tight hairstyles like ponytails or braids pull your hair away from the scalp — and over time, the bond between your hair and scalp will loosen.
Your best bet is to avoid hairstyles that tug too tightly.
Next, make sure you keep your hair tools on low heat.
We love styling our luscious locks just as much as the next hair care fanatic.
But if you’re not using them properly, heated tools like blow dryers and curling irons can dehydrate your hair follicles and cause irreversible damage.
Do your hair a favor and drop the heat down low!
Lastly, schedule an appointment with your doctor if you notice any excessive hair loss.
Hormonal imbalance is one of the most common culprits of hair loss. High androgen levels can shrink your hair follicles — this will prevent your hair from growing properly.
So get your hormones checked!
Do you need some help with your care regimen? Just drop us a comment down below or send us a message and we’ll happily share our knowledge 🙂
Did you know that hormonal imbalance can lead to hair loss?
Shocking, we know ;)
So for those of you who are struggling with hair loss:
When’s the last time you had your hormone levels checked?
Hair loss is no laughing matter — and if you’re like most people, you’ll probably want to avoid it.
We happen to be experts on the subject ;)
So if you want to keep your hair healthy — and on your head — follow the three golden rules of hair care:
1) Lower your stress levels — excess cortisol can cause inflammation in your hair follicles, leading to hair loss.
2) Make scalp massages a habit — this will increase blood flow to your hair follicles and promote hair growth across your scalp.
3) Be gentle when brushing or combing — too much tugging or pulling can rip the hair out prematurely. So do yourself a favor and invest in a detangling product to get rid of any knots.
Each of these three golden rules is essential for keeping healthy hair — so if your hair care regimen is in need of some TLC, feel free to purchase one of my Organic hair serum at www.kerrshair.com :)
