On August 27, 2023 around 10:40 in the evening, TCSO Dispatch received a report of a medical emergency in the area of Grouse Lake, A remote location only accessible by trail, in the Emigrant Wilderness. Search and Rescue (SAR) was activated to respond due to the remote wilderness location. After discovering air support was not an option until the morning, SAR formed a plan which included response by horseback into Grouse Lake to assist the patient, with a plan to have CHP H40 CHP - Central Division Air Operations first thing in the morning to fly the patient out. SAR members Spokas and Wycoff are seen in this video responding by horseback to the location which took approximately two hours to access. Once at the location they remained with the patient overnight. Around 530 in the morning CHP H40 responded to Grouse Lake. Once CHP H40 was on scene, Spokas and Wycoff prepared the patient for evacuation by hoist. CHP H40 successfully evacuated the patient from the area and took him to a hospital for further medical evaluation. After the operation concluded our partners at Aspen Meadow Pack Station assisted by packing out the patients gear which had been left at the lake. #teamwork #ChpH40 #Aspenmeadowspackstation #tuolumnecountysearchandrescue #TCSOSAR #tuolumnecountysheriffsoffice #emigrantwilderness #GrouseLake

Please take care of each other and spread the word about safety around swift-water. With weather warming people are looking for ways to cool off, one way is visiting a local swimming hole. Although beautiful, extreme caution should be used when visiting any of our local waterways and swimming holes. Below is a video showing what swift-water conditions may look like, including some advice from our Search and Rescue (SAR) team members from a few years ago, which becomes relevant every spring and summer when snow-melt and high mountain precipitation create fast moving, potentially dangerous currents. #StaySafe #swiftwater #swiftwaterrescue #tuolumnecountysheriff #tuolumnecountysheriffsoffice #tuolumnecounty #searchandrescue
