Sometimes things become overwhelming, especially for trauma survivors. Our brains and bodies get into fight/flight/freeze or fawn . 😵

I like this particular grounding exercise because it does not require you to remember anything specifically. Not counting anything particularly or remembering any details steps. What it is is that you'll just start naming objects in the room where you're at. If you forget everything about it, just remember that.

But to write down the detailed process, here it goes:👇🏼
1) Pause and notice how you feel. Where do you feel that emotion in your body? Allow it to be there. The emotion is not your enemy, you have the right to feel your feelings.
2)Take a deep breath, notice your breath,
3) If you can, move to a different room because that will give your brain a chance to move away from the triggers so that you can work towards feeling connected and secure again
4) Start by naming every single object that you see in the room. Look at all the directions so that you move your eyes. Notice their texture and name it come with their color if you want. Spend a good two to three minutes doing that.
5) When you're done, notice if you feel any differently and then engage in a different activity.(Activities such as puzzles, knitting, anything that requires concentration will help your brain switch to the thinking brain from the emotional brain)

Hope that helps!

Hey, let's clear something up: having Complex PTSD or any other diagnosis doesn't mean you're weak. Not in the slightest. It means you've been through some stuff, and you're still standing.
It means you've faced battles that most people can't even imagine, and you're still here, fighting.
Having a diagnosis means you're brave, resilient, and worthy of all the love and support in the world.
It means you're taking steps every day to heal and grow.
So, let's stop with the stigma and judgment, and start celebrating the strength and courage it takes to navigate mental health challenges. You're a warrior, my friend, and don't you forget it.🦸🏽

What is the freeze response? You know, that feeling when your body just freezes up in the face of stress or danger?
It's like hitting the pause button on life. When we experience the freeze response, our body goes into survival mode, and we might feel stuck, paralyzed, or unable to move.At the same time we might still feel our heart beating fast and feel anxious.
It's our brain's way of trying to keep us safe when fight or flight just won't cut it.
But here's the thing: understanding the freeze response can help us navigate tough situations with a little more grace.
It's not your fault for freezing. Your body is doing it automatically to protect you.

🪄Quick tip to get out of it: Move your body!
Start by introducing micro-movement, wriggle your fingers and toes, start moving your arms, then legs, head etc.
(you can even do a silly dance when and if you're ready. )

Alright, let's break it down: emotional flashback vs. regular flashback.
So, with emotional flashbacks (commonly experienced with Complex PTSD), it's like your emotions just hit you outta nowhere, right?
You're going about your day, and BAM! 🎇Suddenly, you're drowning in fear, shame, or anger, and you're not sure why. It's like your body's stuck in the past, feeling all the feels from way back when. But here's the thing: no vivid memories, just overwhelming emotions that mess with your head and make it hard to tell past from present.

Now, regular flashbacks(typically experienced with PTSD), that's a whole 'nother ball game. It's like you're back in the thick of it, reliving every sight, sound, and smell from the trauma. Triggered by reminders of the past, it's like you're right back there, heart racing, palms sweating, feeling like it's all happening again.

Rather than viewing our wounds as solely sources of pain or weakness, Richo suggests that they can serve as gateways to deeper understanding, growth, and beauty.

Consider this: when we experience hardship or adversity, we are often forced to confront aspects of ourselves that we may have otherwise ignored or overlooked. These challenges can act as catalysts for self-reflection, pushing us to explore our vulnerabilities, fears, and insecurities.

Moreover, it is through our struggles that we develop resilience and inner strength. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, we emerge from our darkest moments with newfound wisdom and clarity. Our wounds become badges of honor, testament to our courage and perseverance in the face of adversity.

So, the next time you find yourself facing a challenge or setback, remember that your wounds are not obstacles to be overcome, but rather invitations to explore the depths of your being and unleash your truest, most beautiful self.

💡 At a neuronal level, trauma leaves an indelible mark on our brain's architecture. When we experience a traumatic event, our amygdala, the brain's fear center, goes into overdrive, triggering a cascade of physiological responses. Meanwhile, our prefrontal cortex, responsible for rational thought and decision-making, struggles to maintain control amidst the chaos.

🌊 But here's where it gets fascinating: our brains are incredibly adaptive. Through a process known as neuroplasticity, they can rewire themselves in response to experiences. However, without the presence of an empathetic witness – someone who can offer validation and support – the trauma becomes trapped within us, festering like a wound that refuses to heal.

🔬 Research shows that trauma can alter the structure and function of key brain regions, impacting everything from memory and emotion regulation to our sense of self. This internalization of trauma can lead to a host of mental health challenges, from anxiety and depression to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

🌱 Yet, amidst this complexity, there is hope. By understanding the power of our brains and the role of empathy in healing, we can embark on a journey of self-discovery and resilience. Through practices like mindfulness, therapy, and building supportive relationships, we can begin to unravel the knots of trauma and reclaim our sense of wholeness.

At a neuronal level, this quote resonates profoundly. Our brains are marvels of adaptation and plasticity. When a stimulus triggers our senses, it sets off a complex chain of neuronal activity. But here's the remarkable part: within this split-second process, there's a moment of pause – a space where we can harness our cognitive faculties to evaluate, interpret, and choose our response.

✨ Neuroscientists refer to this phenomenon as "neuroplasticity" – the brain's ability to reorganize and adapt in response to experiences. This means that with conscious effort and practice, we can reshape our neural pathways, rewiring our responses for greater resilience, positivity, and growth.

🌱 Picture this: imagine a stressful situation arises. Instead of reacting impulsively, your prefrontal cortex – the seat of rational decision-making – kicks into gear. Through mindfulness techniques you activate neural networks associated with calmness and emotional regulation, effectively shifting your response from one of stress to one of calm and clarity.

🔑 Understanding this neurobiological process empowers us to cultivate mindfulness and intentional living. By nurturing our brain's plasticity, we can train ourselves to respond thoughtfully rather than reactively, fostering personal growth and unlocking the true freedom that lies within.
