A deciduous tooth, also known as a baby tooth, sometimes doesn't fall out on its own, even when the adult tooth begins to grow in. When this happens, the two teeth become tightly packed together, creating an ideal space for debris to accumulate. This can increase the risk of gum disease, potentially leading to the loss of both teeth. In these cases, extraction under general anesthesia is the preferred treatment.

Dr. Mayes removed the 4th premolar, one of the main chewing teeth and the most commonly fractured. To ensure there was no open socket where the tooth was removed, Dr. Mayes sutured the gingival flap. This technique is more sanitary, and helps reduce the likelihood of infection (similar to avoiding a dry socket in humans). Halie will enjoy a tasty softened food diet for the next two weeks. At Halie's complimentary recheck appointment she should be able to transitions back to her regular food and get to chew on her favorite VOHC-certified toys and treats!

Meet Moose – a brave soul who has endured unimaginable pain. This sweet boy was cruelly shot and abandoned, but thanks to the AMAZING rescue team at People for Animal Care & Kindness, Moose has a fighting chance. This incredible organization has provided financial help to some of our clients, and now they’re rallying to cover Moose’s medical bills. Our poor baby Moose 🫎 has some not so great news to share. On his way to the vet this morning, his pain hit a level that was heartbreaking as he cried much of the way there. Upon admit, he was given an injection of Torbugesic, a high-powered op**te to help with his comfort. Radiographs of his skull were taken and Moose has a very badly fractured lower mandible with tiny bone fragments everywhere. 💔 On top of that, an infection has developed that is causing massive swelling and pain as well. This is going to be another big, tricky case, one that likely requires greater imaging and a specialized surgeon to try and piece him back together... if that's even a possibility. We have phone calls out to several hospitals and some of our favorite surgeons, hoping for someone to help us come up with the very best plan for our special little guy. Right now he is in a wonderful foster home and resting well while we decide what to do next. Boy the hits just keep coming, but we're so grateful he is safe today and not out there somewhere with no one to care. We loved you right away and will do whatever we can to get you fixed up buddy. Please stay strong and try to rest, big days are ahead. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

A standard dental cleaning is the initial phase in maintaining your pet's dental well-being. After the cleaning, she can use at-home products to help slow tartar buildup. We'll see her pet annually to maintain dental health and address any issues early.
