-Because it only appeared in only one hue, the British Shorthair was originally known as the British Blue. However, today, this cat's short coat is available in a wide range of colors. These playful, independent cats don't need constant attention, but they do have a tendency to cling to each member of their family with equal fervor.

All About The Manx Cat
Manx cats have the independent qualities of cats but are loyal, warm and playful like dogs. These often tailless, robust hunting cats are mellow and, oddly enough, known for their partiality to water.

You can see just from looking at photos of Manx cats that this breed has an incredibly playful spirit. Manx cats also have a gene that leaves many specimens of the breed without a tail. Over the years, there have been many legends created to explain why Manx don't have tails.

The Manx cat is a spunky type who can get into just about anything. They often learn to open cabinets to find whatever it is they are looking for - usually treats. They are also quite loving and make great family cats. Some say a Manx has a personality more similar to a typical dog than a cat - loyal, playful and interactive with their owner or family. They love to stay warm in your lap and cuddle for long periods of time. They get along well with children and other animals. Manx are excellent hunters and are a great help on farms and ships to help with pests - tail or no.

Manx cats come from the Isle of Man, a somewhat independently governed island of the UK. They look like a typical house cat with round eyes, a round head and thick fur in many different patterns - until they turn around that is. The main characteristic of a Manx is the complete lack of a tail. Manx cats are short-haired, but there is a long-haired version, the Cymric. The latter is fully identical to the Manx, except for hair length.

The Manx is a rounded cat with a round head, round eyes, a roundness at the whisker pads, and a round rump. The ears form a rocker shape when viewed from behind. The hind end of the Manx is higher than the front, which is apparent when she is standing.

That statement is only partially true, however. Manx cats can have no tail, they can have a stump of a tail, they can have half a tail, or they can have a tail that is of average length. We’ll get into that in a bit.

The Manx is one of a few tailless cat breeds, yet it’s probably the best-known as it is more widespread than Kurilian Bobtail and Japanese Bobtail cats, which share some similarities. Depending on location and registry, these cats might have long or short hair in a variety of different colors - and it’s worth noting that some purebred cat registries refer to long-haired Manx cats as Cymric cats.

Manx cats are a unique breed—most recognizable for their round appearance and lack of a tail. After meeting a Manx, you will quickly understand why so many people have fallen in love with these cuddly felines. Not only are they lively and playful cats, but they are also a wonderful companion.

There are many stories about the origination of the Manx cat, most of them include the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea, where the name, likely originated. The Manx will have one of four tail types. Rumpies are completely tailless, often with a dimple at the base of the spine where the tail would be. Rumpy-risers have a short k**b of tail.

The Manx cat (/ˈmæŋks/, in earlier times often spelled Manks) is a breed of domestic cat (Felis catus) originating on the Isle of Man, with a naturally occurring mutation that shortens the tail. Many Manx have a small stub of a tail, but Manx cats are best known as being entirely tailless; this is the most distinguishing characteristic of the breed, along with elongated hind legs and a rounded head.
