I'll leave it active if anyone wants to look back at previous posts.
Thank you all for your interest in my work. Your support is much appreciated.

Shoshone Woodcraft (aka my shop) is officially closed, due to health issues.
Attached are photos of the last of the last flock.
I'm hanging up my shop apron that I've worn for the last 30 years or so, although Igor and I were ready to start the next bird.
My sincere thanks to each and every one of you for your interest in my birds. I hope they will continue to bring smiles to your face -- that's their job.
As promised, heeer's Dudley!
Dudley Doright, pride of the Mounties, intrepid hero and all around snappy dresser.
As the Mounties say, "He always gets his man." And - come to think of it - that man seems to always be Snidley Whiplash.
This completes the cast of our ongoing melodrama of good guys, bad guys and fair damsels. Hope you enjoyed the show.
Several days ago, you met Nell Trueheart.
Today we introduce another character in this melodrama, everybody's favorite villain, Snidley (Curses, foiled again!") Whiplash.
You can tell right away he's a bad guy from his black hat. Also, he has a coil of rope in his secret compartment, just in case he gets a chance to tie Nell to the railroad tracks.
Coming soon: The Pride of the Mounties, Dudley Doright. Stay tuned...
This is Nell. When she's not being tied to the railroad tracks by arch villain Snidley Whiplash or rescued in the nick of time by Mountie Dudley Doright, she's carrying out her duties with The Upright Citizens Brigade.
Nothing fancy in her secret compartment, just some birdseed, in case she gets peckish.
"I didn't say all those things I said " says my bird buddy Yogi B.
He's retired from baseball now and after all those years wearing a boring pinstripe Yankees uniform, he's ready for some splashes of color in his outfit.
You can tell he's nostalgic for his time on the diamond though. He has a baseball bat in his secret compartment.
Say hello to Ace. He's well known in the pool halls around town for his flashy outfits and wise guy attitude. He always carries his custom-made Q-Ball and 8-Ball in his secret compartment, just in case he can con some sucker into a game.
For all my Punk/Goth friends out there, say hello to Stormy. She's got a real Punk/Goth attitude, but I'm not sure what that is in her secret compartment. Not bird seed. Maybe some sort of medicinal herb.
Say hello to Olive. What to guess what she has in her secret compartment? Well, olives, of course.
(Not those olives you get in the grocery store, but the kind I make in my shop.)
Delivering to the Clay Connection Gallery this morning. Just in time for Christmas shopping.
Buck, Violet, Goldie, Stan, Emily and Ernie are ready to fly.
I'm happy to report that the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery decided to feature my birds in the online auction they have prior to their Pumpkin Ball and (drum roll) they all sold immediately.
It's good to know the good folks who support the nursery also like my goofy birds.
Here's my latest flock, that went directly to Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery today. They will feature my birds in a silent auction at their annual Pumpkin Ball fundraiser this weekend.
Here's hoping they do well to support the nursery.
Uncle Sam, Prince, Buddy, Maggie and Emeril are off to the Clay Connection Gallery this morning.
You've met Uncle Sam and Dusty, so here's the rest of my "Birds Wearing Hats" flock
Skipper, Stanley, Buddy and Emeril.
The other day, I was painting one of my birds and I noticed a cat hair on my brush (thank you, Sammy).
It brought to mind something I had read about the French Impressionist, Renoir. It seems he was quite fond of cats and museum curators have found that one way to authenticate his paintings is that the paint contains cat hairs.
So I thought, “Well, how about that? When future museum curators are examining one of my birds, they will know it was patented by either Renoir or me.” ;-)
You've heard about "The Canary In the Coal Mine." Well, here he is! Say hello to Dusty. He just got off his shift in the mine. (That's a lump of coal in his secret compartment, for good luck.)
Many thanks to good friend and loyal patron John, for coming up with the idea of Dusty.
I also wanted to dress up Uncle Sam a bit, so I made a fancy hat for him. (He's got money stashed away, as Uncle Sam always does.)
Good times at Shoshone Woodcraft this weekend.
Say hello/goodbye to Prince. I finished him yesterday and this morning he packed up his stash of Purple Rain and flew away to a new home.
Thanks much to Platinum Level Patrons Marilyn and John for your support, your special contribution to Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery and your clever ideas.
Coming soon: (Cap'n) Jack Sparrow and Maggie magpie.
Today's flock of goofy birds, on display/sale at the Clay Connection Gallery, 714 E. Sprague, Spokane.
As always, proceeds from the sales go to Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery.
Thanks, everyone, for supporting this worthy cause.
Say hello to Sam.
The 4th of July is his favorite day of the year.
Happy 4th from Sam and all his friends.
P.S. Sam and his friends are ready to fly away to New homes.
If you would like to adopt any of them, head on down to the Clay Connection Gallery at 714 East Sprague in Spokane. Tell them I sent you..
These little guys and gals are a bargain at 20 bucks each, with proceeds going to the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery.
Adopt a bird and contribute to a good cause.
More goofy birds.
This is Flock #4, ready to go to the Clay Connection Gallery in a few days.
This flock makes 40 birds finding a new home and benefitting the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery.
The flock includes--
The Old Folks: Granny & Granpa
The College Kids: Zag, Coug & Dub
The Big Guys: Larry Bird & Arnold (I'll be back...)
The Birdy Family Singers: Sisters Wanda & Maxine, along with their annoying little brother, Sparky
They should be in the gallery by Wednesday this week. The last flock of 10 birds sold out in one day. Just sayin...
Heeeeer's Granny. Gramps is so happy now.
It was kind of a difficult photo shoot. I couldn't get a picture without her mouth open, because she is such a talker. Also, she insisted on wearing her goofy, fuzzy, pink slippers, because they are comfy and they keep her feet warm. She's happy with her new bifocals, so she can keep a closer eye on Gramps.
I just took my latest flock of 10 birds to the Clay Connection Gallery. Now there are only two left for sale. My sincere thanks to the good folks who purchase my birds. And also thanks for supporting Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery.
"Gramps" is the latest addition to the Shoshone Woodcraft flock.
Here are the birds I will be taking to the Clay Connection Gallery on Wednesday (5/4).
As usual, proceeds from the sales will go to the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery.
I spent a wonderful afternoon giving a talk about (my kind of) woodworking to the residents at Palouse Country Assisted living. Great fun. Many thanks to my wife, Gail, our friends Carolyn and Edwin Holmes, Activities Director Holly Davidson and especially to staff nurse Erica Cordova for helping make it happen.
(Faces of the residents are not shown here, in compliance with a request from Palouse Country Assisted Living.)
I just delivered a new flock of 10 birds to the Clay Connection Gallery in Spokane.
The first flock sold out in 4 days.
All proceeds of the sales go to the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery.
Last week I introduced “Henry the 9th.” I figured he needed at least one wife, so here is “Fran Boleyn.” (A distant cousin to Anne Boleyn…).
Fran is decked out in all her regal finery and she is the ideal mate for Ol’ Henry, because — in the end — her head comes off.
I am pleased to announce that my goofy birds are on display (and for sale) at the Clay Connection Gallery in Spokane. Just in time for your Christmas shopping. 😉
The price is $20 per bird, with the proceeds of the sale going to the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery.
March 5th News: All sold out, but another flock is in the works.
