As part of Innovia's year-long 50th anniversary celebration, we were proud to sponsor Othello's first Cinco de Mayo celebration and support bringing people together to experience the vibrant Latino and Hispanic culture of our region. To celebrate, we brought a free 360° photo booth to the festivities for visitors to enjoy! The idea to hold a Cinco de Mayo event began with Elevate Othello, a community-led visioning effort sponsored by Rural Development Initiatives. A grant of $12,000 from Innovia helped Elevate Othello engage residents in a process to identify priority projects, including celebrations like Cinco de Mayo. Free and open to all, the celebration included a parade, food vendors, dancing and musical performances and fun activities for kids and families!
Nurturing relationships and forging connections are the heartbeat at Nuestras Raíces, the longest-serving, Hispanic-led organization in Spokane County. With grant support from Innovia this year, Nuestras Raíces increased enrollment and performance opportunities for Folklórico de Spokane, a dance program for youth and adults to connect with Mexican culture and artistic expression.
