POWER vs ENERGY in laser therapy. Why is this important?

I am sure many have seen laser companies advertise how their "red light" or their "laser" is the most powerful on the market. Some compare their lasers to others and advertise how their laser is stronger. But what does this really mean? There are countless devices on the market now which makes it confusing.

There is a distinct difference in POWER and ENERGY when it comes to laser therapy. Some say their laser is "100 times more powerful" or "20 times more potent." POWER is the number of photons a laser emits each second. It doesn't matter how high the photon count (or power) is because if the energy of the photons is low, the needed photochemical reaction will not take place. Infact, it only takes one photon with the appropriate energy to kickstart the photochemical reaction, which makes the notion of "more power" untrue.

An electron volt (eV) is the amount of ENERGY gained by an electron when it is going through an electric potential difference. The electrons get a boost of energy as they accelerate from a resting to excited state. The electric potential difference is what stimulates our cells and triggers the photochemical response that stimulates the healing process. The ENERGY of the lasers is what causes the magic to happen!
