Expansion of GA Terminal at SGF
WORK IN PROGRESS
Woo-hoo! The really serious (and LOUD!) work of remodeling and expanding our general aviation terminal started Friday as contractor Nabholz Corporation began sawing out portions of the south wall.
This short video gives an idea of what's going on: that exterior wall they're cutting into will make way for the glassed-in meeting room that's visible in the architectural rendering at the end of the video.
The general aviation terminal (also known as the GA terminal) is where privately owned aircraft load and unload passengers at the airport. Itβs also where those aircraft are fueled and serviced. Itβs separate from the airline terminal that most people are familiar with.
The GA terminal was built in 1990 and is too small for current demand. The remodel project includes updated restrooms, expansion of the administration area and pilot lounge, and the addition of a large public community room (that's the glassed-in meeting room in the video).
During construction some services at the GA terminal will be limited, but aircraft fueling and servicing will continue normally. The project should take about a year to complete.
SPEEDY VISITOR Here's something we don't see often β an F-15 Eagle. It flew over our airfield today. Thanks to Tory for the vid!

If you can stay inside today please do so.
If you have to get out please keep these people in your thoughts: the folks cleaning the airport runways. Those clearing the highways and streets. The first responders who come to the rescue no matter what. Thanks to them all.
This video was shot at our airport about 10:30 this morning.

What to Expect at the Airport
WHAT TO EXPECT AT OUR SGF AIRPORT
Memorial Day weekend is the traditional start of the summer travel season. And with about 50 percent of American adults fully vaccinated for Covid-19, people are returning to the nationβs airports with a vengeance.
The astounding effectiveness of the vaccines gives many people the confidence to travel again. But returning to the airport is not without some trepidation.
Weβre often asked: what should I expect at the airport? Are things kept clean? Are people wearing masks? What precautions is the airport taking?
Take a look at our video. It will give you an overview of what the airport community is doing to keep you safe. When youβre ready to fly again, weβre here for you.
Wednesday evening our airport held its tri-annual disaster drill. These drills usually simulate the crash of an aircraft at the airport. We do them to maintain our federal certification to host airline service. This yearβs drill offered a twist: it assumes that a military helicopter, and an airliner collide on the ground. The end result β both aircraft are on fire. About 35 passengers are on the airliner, the helicopter has a crew of four. In our video youβll get a taste for what first responders found at the scene. Many thanks to all the organizations that helped; they are tagged below.
