This is THE most important social media post I will ever write!
Most of my family and friends have met my identical twin grandsons, Beck and Brooks. If you’ve never met them you should! They are very special humans! They were born 2 months premature with an extremely rare genetic disorder called Galactosemia.
Patients with galactosemia are unable to metabolize the simple sugar galactose, which is present at high levels in all forms of dairy, including breast milk, and is also present at lower levels in fruits, vegetables, legumes, along with many other natural foods and almost all processed foods. To help manage the condition, people with galactosemia must eat a galactose restricted diet. However, diet alone is not enough. The human body makes galactose as well and there is presently no way of “flushing” it from their system. It creates toxins within their bodies that causes all kinds of problems….developmental delays in growth, speech, behavior, cognitive function and can also leads to kidney, liver and eye damage.
Scientist have come up with a drug that during clinical trials showed marked improvement in Galactosemia patients. What I am asking of you today is to sign the petition to accelerate the FDA approval process. Beck and Brooks can’t afford to wait any longer for a treatment that will change their lives!
Galactosemia was discovered in 1908. We’ve gone more than a century with no cure or approved treatment. The time for change is now. We are asking that the FDA and Congress not turn their backs on our rare disease; please allow AT-007 to proceed timely with the accelerated approval process.
Please take 10 seconds out of your day to sign this petition to potentially change Beck and Brooks lives!
Have you seen this petition yet? Pave the Way, FDA, for the Potential First Treatment for Galactosemia
