All Wheels Cycling Club
Riding with a group adds enjoyment and comradery to cycling but it can be frustrating when the group ONLY focuses on the fastest riders.
At AWCC we welcome a wide variety of abilities, so you stick with your cycling goals and never get left behind. We ride trails free of automobile traffic. The "No Drop" ride is 10 miles on Saturdays. Some cyclists go further depending on their schedule. I guarantee you won't be left behind as you build fitness. The Wednesday "Stretch Ride" is 20 miles. We start at 5:45PM starting June 1. Cool hotel in Lawrence, KS. Here on business.
The Mizzou Alum within me feels like I’m in enemy territory.
Katy Trail was very soft today with standing water. Turned around immediately and rowd over to Creve Couer.
Warch our for a few ice spots on the Page Bridge and underneath the oberpass.
Great sunny day for a ride
Office coming together nicely. Big thanks to the amazing Jeanet Wade for the tree. Big thanks to Shirzad Chamine for the signed copy of his book.
Only thing missing at this point is….
audentes Fortuna iuvat (Fortune Favors the Bold) on the big wall.
Who wants to learn to fix their flat tire?
We are trying to gauge the interest of free maintenance classes. The first one will focus on flat repair at the end of February. If you would like to attend please comment below.
No ride tonight. Sorry for short notice.
Which packing setup do u like best?
Dawn Uhlenbrock and I rode 210 miles over the past 3 days, all on Katy Trail. That’s only 27 shy of the entire Katy Trail.
Dawn and I met through the creation of All Wheels Cycling Club. Hope u are finding riding partners through our weekly rides.
Saturday Notes:
Last Saturday’s route was new for us and received well. We will do that again with a few tweaks in the route as well as managing the speed.
Weather looks great for this Saturday. Morning temps in the 70’s. Clear skies.
Starting at this location we typically hang out a bit and have breakfast at Bike Stop Café following the ride
Wednesday Note: I am training for a big ride in late September and will be carrying extra gear. That means I will be slower than the usual Wednesday pace.
Wednesdays

Sat, 9/10

Distance: 10-25 miles
This week is a prelude to my favorite time in the cycling year. That point where you have suffered the heat and humidity and the temperatures finally break.
Why is this my favorite time? You will find yourself going further and faster with less effort because riding in 70's and 80's is easier on your body compared to 90's.
Every year when I was training for and coaching marathons everyone's performance would kick up. Plus, you won't be soaking wet with sweat. Is it soaking wet or sopping wet?
Happy riding and take advantage of the cooler temps this week.
Mike
Hallelujah! The heat wave is over. The temps this week look heavenly compared to triple digits.
Wednesday Notes: Weather look great.
Saturday Notes:
1. Weather looks absolutely wonderful
2. Evolution of the caboose: If you are at 11MPH or below I support 10 miles. This is so we finish at the same time as those riding 15, 20 or 25 miles. You are always welcome to ride as far as you wish, I will continue to support 10 miles. If the caboose is faster, then I will support more miles)
3. We are avoiding 2 sections of the Katy. Greens Bottom got hit HARD by the massive rain downpour. Between Bike Stop Café and the Family Arena is rough and gravelly with all the construction around the trail.
Wednesdays

Wednesday Ride cancelled tonight. Storms rolling in over next few hours. Stay dry and see you on Saturday.
Katy Trail is in excellent condition where we are riding tomorrow.
First time there hasn’t been lots of dust AND the temps are gorgeous.
Come on out tomorrow….We dont bite!!
Found a set of hills not far from Bike Stop Cafe. They were great hill repeats. I call it Up & Down in French Town.
There is a hill between 5th Street and 2nd Street in St. Charles. Going from Sacred Heart Academy toward Hwy 370 the hills get harder.
Up Decator, down Franklin, up Morgan, down Montgomery, up Lawrence, down Bayard, up Randolph, down Olive.
Lawrence has 11-12% gradient at top, Randolph has 12-13% gradient. Those will slow you down.
Other hills in St. Charles
Ehlmann Road from Zumbehl
Zumbehl Road from Ehlman
Droste Road from McNair Park to Duchesne
Duchesne Street from Duchesne High School to Droste
Pitman Hill from Greens Bottom
Fox Ridge Drive from Upper Bottom to Heritage Landing
What hills do you ride?
Page brodge pedestrian lane closed daily. Notmsure how long. Anybody know?
Granada Cyclery has some new road and gravel bikes in stock. I want the sparkly Cervelo.
This Saturday we went to the MCT Trails in Metro East Illinois. The feedback is that it’s not that far of a drive and the trail was awesome. The only negative feedback was the 10A starting time was too late for summer heat. I hear you on all that, so we’ll go back and start at our normal 9A time.
Saturday Notes: I’m going to keep the rotation to heavily shaded stretches of trail. Notice the adjusted Start Location for this Saturday. Moving into the upcoming weeks we’ll start between Pitman Hill and Defiance which guarantees LOTS of shade. When the temps break, we’ll mix it up again. If you know of a shady stretch of trail anywhere let me know and I’ll check it out.
All Wednesday ride information is the same for the foreseable future, so just assume the info for 7/20 is the same for every Wednesday.

Hello All Wheelers.
Wednesday Note: There is a 9-11 degree difference from being in the sun versus riding this stretch of the Katy Trail. You would be surprised how much more comfortable the shade is on the Pitman Hill-Defiance stretch. For instance, yesterday in the sun it was 96 and under the trees it was 86. Still warm so as always know your capability and bring extra hydration.
Saturday Notes: This is a fun departure from our usual locations as we head across the Mississippi River. The MCT bike trails are AWESOME.
• Weather: Clear skies and warm
• Trail has a lot of tree cover
• Notice the different start time for this Saturday

At the pre-season party I overheard a number of requests for a flat tire repair clinic. It’s ON.
This is the most essential skill for any cyclist. I mean, other than learning to balance yourself on 2 wheels. 🤣🤣
