💙🩵 Color Trend Report: Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore agree — the color of the year is BLUE! Depending on the shade, blue can evoke different variations of calm. So we were walking along the gorgeous southern end of Topsail Island last weekend when I spied a shell that really spoke to me. Yes I saw a shell, but I also saw paint colors, wood tones, pattern, and form. Before long, I had a slightly mod kitchen design going in my head – inspired by a handful of shells. It would make a fun show on HGTV, I think, to see how a handful of elements from nature – whether the beach, or the forest, or mountains – could turn into a wonderful room with each episode.

Bathroom zen! Check out our fresh new 3D rendering of a primary bathroom set to undergo a huge transformation. Here's how we're bringing all the elements of style together:

• Floor Plan - We're replacing the unused corner tub with a spacious walk-in shower, eliminating the need for a door and the hassle of cleaning glass.

• Color Palette - Responding to the farmhouse vibe request, we've incorporated the classic mix of black, white, and wood tones.

• Finishes - Embracing the wood-look tile floor requested by the client, we've extended them up the shower walls and ceiling for a cozy ambiance. Classic subway tiles with black grout will provide a striking contrast on the vanity backsplash and in the water closet.

• Fixtures - Mixing oil-rubbed bronze hardware with brushed nickel k***s for added interest, we've created a luxurious yet eclectic feel. Yes, you can mix your metals! The rain head shower faucet and the water control placed outside the shower add a touch of indulgence.

• Flooring - Seamlessly flowing from the primary bedroom into the bath, the wood-look tiles establish the desired modern farmhouse aesthetic. To ensure safety and style, we've incorporated a black slatted mosaic tile for better traction on the shower floor and bench seat.

• Furniture - Introducing drama and contrast, we've selected a charcoal-painted vanity with a white quartz top.

• Lighting - Brightness is maintained with new recessed lighting throughout the bath, complemented by rustic vanity lights.

• Window Treatments - By updating the old window with a sleek black-framed transom, we're ensuring the continued flow of natural light.

• Artwork - Adding a touch of greenery, framed botanical prints in the water closet bring life to the space.

• Accessories - Infusing vitality into the vanity area, a wooden vase with olive branch greenery takes center stage, alongside a black and white farmhouse rug. Adding a graphic punch, black framed-round mirrors complete the look.

Another fun install day yesterday! The challenge was to lighten up this home office without painting the walls. Takeaway Tip: If your room is too dark and a bit depressing, replace dark items with light ones and open your blinds. It may seem simple, but sometimes the most impactful changes are!

Here's what we did...
• Old honey oak furniture was replaced with a mixture of Seadrift and White finishes
• The tan jute rug was replaced with a light patterned one
• A fun peel-n-stick wallpaper with a light background was layered behind family portraits. The pattern was repeated in the draperies on the opposite wall
• A watery abstract was hung between two light bookcases

Fun fact – This office is occasionally shared by mom, dad (a small plane pilot), and a son. The son flies private charter jets for a living at only 20 years old! We wove that passion into the accessories with globes, brass airplane statue, and an antique sign that advertises plane rides for 50 cents. Quite the contrast to the $40k plane rides the son offers today! (Personally, this was a fun one for me because my dad was also a small plane pilot.😊)

✨ Floor plan - It all starts with the placement of furniture and flow.

✨Color palette - This client had a wish for coastal blues and grays along with natural materials like raw wood and stone.

✨ Finishes - The stone fireplace would remain untouched, but we updated the mantle and yellow/beige walls, and painted out the bookcases in Sherwin Williams Cyberspace.

✨ Flooring and rugs - A wheat colored LVP was laid, and a Ruggable rug with an Aztec print was layered overtop.

✨Large furniture - Modern sofas in charcoal anchor the space and a chambray ottoman provides a center for feet propping.

✨ Supporting furniture - Raw wood and aged brass side tables, along with an ebony and brass sofa table, give the room function.

✨ Lighting - An extra large 12-light chandelier hangs from the two-story ceiling, while ceramic and brass lamps give a warm glow at eye level.

✨Window treatments - Windows were softened with cream and tan stripe custom draperies layered over wood matchstick shades.

✨ Artwork - An ocean-inspired abstract provides a focal point, and black and white casual kid portraits personalize.

✨ Accessories - More coastal hints abound in this room with shell bowls, bookcase trinkets, and vases that mix with the client's own handmade wooden heirlooms.

Fun art installation this week! We combined a metal piece with brass stars for an impactful result that lights up this gorgeous living room. This was the final element of a large Cozy Up project that touched every room on the home's main level. My client is happy, telling me she is "...obsessed. Like, obsessed!" with the results.

Besides adding this art piece, here are a few other things we did:

• Painted the bookcases black and accessorized.
• Brought in a new dining table and chairs with a centerpiece.
• Curated and installed ten art pieces throughout.
• Gave the sweet kindergarten daughter a new blush velvet big girl bed.
• Added side tables and lamps to all bedrooms.
• Added a foyer rug and mirror.
• Added throw pillows.

Our Total Room Makeovers add personality and charm to any bed and bath combo! This one got a French Coastal Country treatment to transform builder gray into oh la la! We believe that ten layers of style contribute to every well-designed space. Here’s how they played out in this project:

1. Floor plan – A symmetrical bed with two nightstands is restful.
2. Color scheme – Analogous colors of blue, green, and gold/sand add calm.
3. Finishes and fixtures – Adding texture was the intent as thin brick-look tile in a sandy color covers the focal wall, while board and batten wainscoting at 2/3 height adds dimension to the rest of the walls. Even the ceiling got a dose of texture with beams in raw maple. The bathroom vanity is painted in an ethereal blue-green that looks like water, while wainscoting is a pale gold color. Faucets were upgraded to a more storied, vintage style – as were the cabinet pulls. Busy granite counters were replaced with a soothing white quartz.
4. Flooring and rugs – A coastal whitewashed look LVP is overlayed with a beachy sisal rug.
5. Large furniture – A California king bed and tufted headboard anchor the room.
6. Supporting furniture – A distressed whitewashed dresser and nightstands add function.
7. Lighting – The large antique-look bedroom chandelier adds a sense of history. Rather than the typical bar vanity lighting, artistic Capiz shell flower pendants hang above curvy mirrors.
8. Window treatments – Grommet curtains in a watery blue draw the eye up and are expertly installed to avoid obscuring the view.
9. Artwork – A simple handcrafted straw medallion softens the brick above the bed.
10. Accessories – Curvy shell-inspired vanity mirrors steal the show in the bathroom and provide contrast to the straight lines of the tile.
