Remember to "Give Five" for your dog. Give a five second pause before responding to your dog's behavior after a command. This allows the dog to process and follow through with your command.
Happy Fathers Day from us at Genius Canis!
Happy Memorial Day!

"What is one of the most difficult behaviors to train?"
I have experienced the most difficulty before with teaching down and it can be even more difficult for the small dogs.
Down is a very submissive position for a dog and more challenging for small dogs due to lack of confidence around the big world.
If you are experiencing difficulty with the down behavior with your dog, big or small, try establishing a comfortable and safe environment to practice the down like on a rug or dog bed before networking to the harder surfaces like wood or concrete.
Happy Labrador Retriever Day! Enjoy Maverick watch last year's AKC Dog Show.

An enriched dog is a good dog. Enrichment can be mental or physical. Sometimes it is as easy as a cat on your tv. Each day try new and different ways to enrich your dog for a better life.
Happy Labor/Labrador Day! Have a great and safe day celebrating with your human and canine family.
Dog will always be dogs. With all the training you do, they will always have instinctive needs that can not go forgetten. Besides training your dog obedience/manners, make sure to allow some bonding time with fun time mental and physical stimulation.
Summer is here and this is a great rule to follow when walking your dog in the heat. If it's to hot for you and your dog to walk some days, consider walking before sunrise and after sunset for you both to enjoy the experience.

Dog Owners are responsible for their dogs' food and feeding habits. The difference between cups and scoops are significant and can impact how much food you are feeding your dog. To have accuracy and consistency when feeding, avoid scoops and use a measuring cup.

November is the month of Thanks. We at Genius Canis give thanks for all the dogs we had the honor of working with over the years. When training is centered around a pleasant bond, you and your dog can do amazing things together!
Dogs are creatures of habit. They get into a routine and stick with it. To make good habits with your dog, think of the training as a long term devotion rather than a short term plan.
