RankWrestlers All-American Shirt Order Form

What a season! There are 105 wrestlers that have separated themselves from the pack by earning RankWrestlers All-American status. Wrestlers on the list have earned a RW score of at least 99%. This can only be done by both being and beating the best of the best throughout the course of the season. This year, we have decided to make shirts to honor the achievement. If you see someone wearing this shirt, it means they are among the best of the best. Please spread the word to the All-Americans and their coaches to make sure they have the opportunity to get one. Full list of AA's can be found here:

It was an incredible weekend of wrestling in Missouri, in large part due to the Winnetonka Invitational. We also had some great matches from the St. Clair and Hickman tournaments. There are too many great matches to write about, so we will just stick to the 10 number 1’s that went down. Alright here we go…

C4 120 state finals rematch

#2 Khyler Brewer (Staley Wrestling) earned a sudden victory win over #1 Korbin Shepherd in the Winnetonka finals. Just last weekend, Shepherd beat Brewer in sudden victory. Last year, the two faced each other in both the district and state finals. Shepherd won on both occasions, by fall at districts and unfortunately by injury at state. Brewer went down with an injury late in the first period while down 5-2. That’s not the way Shepherd wanted to win his first title, and this season is shaping up to culminate in another district and potential state championship rematch. #3 Josh Kyle (Francis Howell) was pinned by Shepherd in December, #4 James Homfeld (Lindbergh) was beat 9-2 by Josh Kyle, #5 Braxton Strick lost to Brewer 8-1, and #6 Ayden Dolt lost to both Strick and Shepherd this past weekend at Winnetonka.

152: James Griffin becomes only 2nd wrestler to beat Ross Arch

Ross Arch (Palmyra) had only lost two matches in his high school career up until Saturday. They were both to Clayton Stallo, first in the 2018 state finals and then again in the 2019 district finals. Arch got his revenge last year in the state finals where he took out Stallo to claim the state title at 145. James Griffin (Parkway West) beat him 7-2 on Saturday. The huge win bumped Griffin from C3 #3 to #2, only behind defending state champ Cayden Auch (Neosho High School Wrestling). Griffin’s only loss of the season was by fall to Andrew Huddleston (Hallsville High School Wrestling), who is the new #1 at C1 152. Tyson Moore (Lexington) moved up to #2, and Ross Arch is now #3.

145: C2 #1 Gavin Gross takes first loss of season

C4 #2 Kal Miller (Park Hill) handed C2 #1 Gavin Gross (Odessa) his first loss of the year in a close 4-2 decision. Gross retains his #1 ranking above #2 Jay Greiner of Lafayette (St. Joseph). Greiner is a superstar freshman with his only loss of the season this year coming early in December to C4 #6 Logan Rathjen of Liberty (8-2). Miller is still sitting at #2 behind Josh Saunders (CBC) who is arguably the #1 P4P wrestler in the state. He just placed 8th at senior nationals, earning wins over several former and current D1 studs including current 141 #7 Dom Demas (Oklahoma).

C4 132: Kyle Dutton defends his #1 ranking

Tre Crawford (Park Hill) was ranked #1 at 138 before his drop to 132. On Saturday, #1 Kyle Dutton (Liberty Blue Jay Wrestling) beat him 3-2 in the finals at Winnetonka. It was Crawford’s first loss this season to an in-state opponent. They are both in District 4 along with #4 Brandon Borlinghaus (Staley). The current #3 wrestler, Ethen Miller, is also from Park Hill. However, the returning state finalist hasn’t wrestled since the Walsh Ironman in December. If anyone knows what happened to him and if he will be competing at the end of the year, please let us know!

C1 120: 2 Superstar Freshmen get huge wins

The #1 and #2 wrestlers in Class 1 120 are both freshmen, and they each picked up a huge win on Saturday. C1 #1 Colin Arch (Palmyra Missouri High School) beat C2 #1 Brock Woodcock (St. Clair) in sudden victory. It was Woodcock’s first loss of the season. That is the 2nd #1 Arch has beaten this year. The other was defending Class 2 state champion #1 Owen Uhls (Fulton) who is now at 113.

C1 #2 Gavyn Carpenter (Hallsville High School Wrestling) continued his extremely impressive freshman season with a pin over now #2 Jackson Caswell (Fulton). That was Carpenter’s 22nd pin of the season, just 4 behind the Class 1 pin leader and fellow freshman Brayden Dubes (Centralia) who has racked up 26. Carpenter and Arch are on track to meet at the District 3 tournament along with #3 and returning state placer Logan Claypole (Richmond).

C1 132: Freshman Phenom Brayden Shelton does it again…

C1 #1 Brayden Shelton (Centralia) beat defending undefeated state champion Donavan Parn (Brookfield) for the second time this season after losing their first meeting in early December. They will meet again at the District 3 tournament, which is sure to be a thrilling bout. Shelton’s only other loss this season was a 3-1 decision to C2 #1 Sam Habrovsky (Fulton) who has only lost 1 match in his high school career.

C4 182: 1 vs 2 showdown

Cameron Gillespie (Park Hill South) took the #1 ranking from now #2 Luke Dickhaus (Eureka) in a 6-2 victory at Winnetonka. This was Dickhaus’ first loss of the season. Gillespie also beat C2 #3 and returning state placer Jake Evinger (Odessa).

C2 #1 Palmer Goes down twice and drops to #3

C4 #4 and returning state placer Grayston DiBlasi (Park Hill) beat Bryce Palmer (Odessa) 5-2 in the Winnetonka semis. Anthony Chellew (Seckman) beat Palmer 5-3 in the 3rd place match. Chellew jumped up from #10 to #5 in the Class 4 rankings after the victory, one spot behind DiBlasi who beat him by one point in the quarters.

113: Undefeated freshman beats defending state champ

C4 #1 Carter McCallister (Rock Bridge) continued his undefeated season with a big time win over defending state champion, C2 #1 Owen Uhls (Fulton). McCallister also has wins over C1 #2 Gavynn Carpenter (Hallsville) and C1 #4 Jason Strope (Fatima).

Team Ranking Update: The class 3 and 4 team races have clear front-runners, but class 1 and 2 appear to be up for grabs.

Class 4: #1 Liberty (189 pts) is holding a solid lead over #2 Park Hill (130 pts)

Class 3: #1 Neosho (154 pts) is holding an even more commanding lead over #2 Lebanon (95 pts)

Class 2: Monett (143 pts) regained the #1 spot over #2 Odessa (125 pts). This race will be very close.

Class 1: #1 Whitfield (140 pts) is looking over their shoulder at #2 Centralia (132 pts).

It was a big weekend in Missouri wrestling! 4 #1 wrestlers went down on Saturday, and another one last night. We had a Class 1 #1 vs #2 showdown and a Class 4 state finals rematch. We also have a new number one in the Class 2 team rankings!

220 All-Star Matchup: The Streak Continues

C4 #1 and defending state champion Kale Schrader (Carthage High School) beat C3 #1 and returning state finalist Drayke Perry of Neosho in sudden victory. Schrader hasn’t lost a match since the state finals of his sophomore season, and he only had 2 overtime matches during his undefeated junior campaign. Every match this season except for the overtime thriller over Perry has been won by fall or major decision. These high-level matchups are rare, and that is why we are starting the RankWrestlers Invitational next season. It will be a post season tournament where we invite the top 8 ranked wrestlers in the state at each weight regardless of class. Keep an eye out for more info about the RW Invitational heading into next season!

195 Revenge Match: Class 2 #1 goes down

C3 #2 Jed Brandon (Willard High School) was pinned by C2 #1 Kaden Dillon (Eldon) at the Monett Tournament. One week later, he beat him 9-6 in the finals of the Tiger Pride Battle. Dillion is still ranked #1 in Class 2, one spot ahead of #2 Jack Creasy (Osage). Those two have also split a pair of matches this season, the first being a 10-4 win by Dillon at the Monett Tournament and the second was an 11-4 victory for Creasy at their dual. They are both in District 3, along with #4 Trevor Campbell (Harrisonville) and #6 Brock Maverick (Buffalo). That will be a loaded district tournament.

152 Another Class 2 #1 goes down

C1 #3 Tyson Moore of Lexington handed C2 #1 Bryce Palmer of Odessa his first loss of this season (6-4). The fact that Moore is ranked #3 behind 2 defending state champions is a testament to the ridiculous depth of this weight class. If the RankWrestlers invitational happened today, 5 of the 8 wrestlers invited at 152 would be from Class 1: Ross Arch, Andrew Huddleston, Tyson Moore, Braden Carpenter, and Matt Wuntkey.

138: You guessed it, another Class 2 #1 takes a loss

C4 #4 Sam Schultz (Chaminade College Preparatory School St. Louis) continued his undefeated senior season with a 4-3 decision over C2 #1 Cristian Dixon (Benton). The last time Dixon lost was in the state finals last year. C4 #1 and #2 are both from Park Hill (we rank wrestlers at the weight they have wrestled most in the last 7 matches), so Schultz is essentially #3.

132 Revenge Match: Brink beats Class 3 #1

As a 2 time defending state champion, Karter Brink (Monett) is no stranger to big matches. He dropped one earlier this season to C3 #1 Kolten Sanders of Neosho (7-3). On Saturday, Brink got his revenge with a 4-3 victory over Sanders in the finals of the Branson Invitational. He is ranked #3 behind undefeated 2 time state champion Jay Strausbaugh (Loagan-Rogersville) and undefeated returning state finalist Sam Hrabovsky (Fulton) who was an undefeated state champ his freshman year. Hrabovsky has only lost one match in his high school career, and it was in the finals last season to Brink 4-3. This has to be one of the most anticipated potential matchups at this year’s state tournament.

120 Class 1 #1 vs #2 showdown

In a potential state championship preview, Logan Claypole (Richmond High School, Richmond, Missouri) took the #1 ranking from now #2 Sam Wilhelm (K**b Noster) with an 8-6 decision. Both wrestlers are returning state placers. Wilhelm’s only other loss this season was a 9-2 decision to 126 C1 #1 Collin Arch (Palmyra Missouri High School) who is one of only 4 freshman RankWresters All-Americans. The other three are Brayden Shelton (Centralia), Brock Woodcock (St. Clair), and Kyshin Isringhausen (Branson).

285 State Finals Rematch

The rivalry between #1 Ryan Skillington (Francis Howell) and #3 Jacobi Jackson (DeSmet) began 2 years ago with Skillington winning both matchups (Fall, 3-0). It really started heating up when Jackson beat Skillington 5-2 early last season. About two months later, Skillington evened the season series with a 0-0 win in ultimate tiebreaker. Yes, you read that right. But that would be far from the last tie breaker match between these two. They met again in the District 2 finals, this time with Jackson getting the victory in TB-1 by a score of 8-3. In the state championship match, Skillington got the better of Jackson winning 3-2 in ultimate tie breaker. In their first meeting this season, Jackson earned a tie breaker victory over Skillington at the Lees Summit Holiday Tournament. They met again this past Saturday in the finals of the St. Charles West Invitational, and Skillington won in ultimate tie breaker by a score of 6-4. This series has been crazy and it is far from over. To make it even more interesting, returning state placer #2 Brandon Backues (Jefferson City) is currently 24-0 and hasn’t wrestled either of them.

New #1 in Class 2

Odessa Bulldog Wrestling has taken the #1 spot from Monett. Here are the wrestlers earning them points in the rankings:

#1 Gavin Gross (145)
#1 Bryce Palmer (152)
#2 Shon Badder (126)
#3 Luke Malizzi (160)
#3 Jake Evinger (182)
#5 Xavier Walsh (195)
#5 Colby Wilson (220)
#5 Nick Wright (285)
#8 Dalton Coe (106)

RankWrestlers Podcast Episode 2: Alex Hopkins | Rokfin 01/11/2020

RankWrestlers Spotlight: Alex Hopkins went from being cut from the 8th grade basketball team to a first time JV wrestler. He went from getting beat up every day in practice to an undefeated Missouri state champion his senior year. He was recruited by Army West Point Wrestling and is now heading down the home stretch of his college career.

The Westminster wrestling legend walks us through his ridiculous progression and drops some bits of wisdom for all the young wrestlers out there.

"Keep showing up. I know it's not fun having your face shoved in the mat every day, but try to take the bright side of each day. If you couldn't get an escape yesterday, get one today. Enjoy the little things you learn in each practice. I'd also say, don't necessarily do what everyone else is doing. That's not how you make jumps. What makes you successful is perfecting your own style. If you're an amazing tilter, you should be hitting tilts every day. If you're terrible at tilting, but you have an amazing bar arm, you should be working on getting to your bar arm every day. In reality, I would say the biggest thing is to keep showing up. If you're in the wrestling room every day, all these other things will take care of themselves. You will start getting better. You will start seeing success. You will not recognize the wrestler you were a year ago if you show up. Not just show up and go through the motions, but show up and dedicate your time and your focus to that 1-2 hour practice that your coach has for you."

Missouri Wrestling Update:

Class 3 132
#4 Oscar Ortiz of McDonald County High School Wrestling knocked off #1 and RankWrestlers All-American Zack Fennell of Rolla at the Kinloch Classic.

Beating the number 1 guy in the state is always a huge deal, but it's especially important for Ortiz because he and Fennell are both in District 3. In fact, 6 of the top 8 wrestlers in the state at 132 are all in district 3. 2 of them are from Neosho, so that will leave 5 top 8 wrestlers competing for 4 state tournament slots...

#1 Zack Fennell (Rolla High Bulldog Wrestling)
#3 Kolton Sanders (Neosho High School Wrestling)
#4 Oscar Ortiz (Mcdonald County)
#5 Eli Zar (Neosho)
#6 Timothy Stevens (Willard)
#7 Jacob Schrimpf (Helias Wrestling)

Class 1 vs Class 2 Battle of the #1's @ 126

Class 1 #1 Collin Arch of Palmyra Missouri High School is having an insane freshman season, handing Class 2 #1 defending state champion Owen Uhls of Fulton the second loss of his high school career.

The Arch family knows how to produce wrestlers... Ross Arch is a defending state champ and ranked #1 at 152, which by the way is one of the toughest weights in the state regardless of class. The top 5 wrestlers have an average RW score of 99.1%. That's ridiculous. Even more ridiculous is the fact that No. 1, 2, and 3 are all in the same district: Class 1 District 3

#1 Ross Arch (Palmyra)
#2 Andrew Huddleston (Hallsville High School Wrestling)
#3 Tyson Moore (Lexington)

Class 1 Team Race Heating Up

Coach Sherertz has built a dynasty at Whitfield, currently on a streak of 3 straight team titles. That streak might be in jeopardy as Centralia has closed the previously massive gap. Centralia is 1 of only 4 teams in the state with 3 RW All-Americans.

132 #1 Brayden Shelton (99.1%)
182 #1 Grafton Littrell (99.2%)
195 #1 Trevor Bodine (99.1%)

They have 4 freshman ranked in the top 5 which means this team is going to be hunting for state titles for many years to come...

106 #2 Brayden Dubes
120 #5 Jesse Shannon
132 #1 Brayden Shelton
138 #5 Kyden Wilkerson

The current team scores are as close as they could possibly be...

Whitfield: 146
Centralia: 145

This is why we love wrestling... Can't wait to see what the next week brings us!
