I’m a words girl and I have a high level of respect for them. Especially their meaning, and specifically the way and context we use words is so intriguing to me.
And one thing I know to be Truth…
Ya’ll be out here using words that are KILLING your conversation.😩 Not only that, your confidence and courage are being silenced because of your unawareness of how much your words have the power to self-sabotage.
For example, words like 𝗯𝘂𝘁, 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝘁𝗿𝘆, and 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 are catabolic, which means they can be draining, destructive, and fear-based. Whether you’re communicating in your personal or professional relationships, there is value in knowing and being accountable for the words coming out of your mouth.
By simply using words in the anabolic family, you can influence your thought-action pattern to engage in more healing, constructive, and success-focused conversations. As a result, you will reduce stress, increase boundaries, and position yourself as a safe and trusted source of communication.
That’s why I’m inviting you to join me for this week’s Lunch Break Learning as I reveal 𝟱 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗞𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. If you’ve been feeling unheard, misunderstood, or want to improve your overall communication skills, you’ll learn the code to breakthrough barriers to build stronger, more authentic relationships….in the 𝗯𝗲𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺, to the 𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺, and 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻!

Question…have you ever felt overwhelmed because you keep saying "yes"when you really want to say "no"?🤔
Boundaries are those necessary limits we set to define what's acceptable in our personal and professional relationships. They help us connect deeply with our own Truth while teaching others how to respect and treat us. So why do people say it's hard to set boundaries? What happens when you draw the line, yet your family and friends keep stepping on or over?😕 How do you establish limits or rules that others will honor?
Listen…setting boundaries isn't about building walls; it's about creating healthy lines that define acceptable behavior for you and others. Knowing when to draw the line will help you show up authentically, choose how you want to be in relationship with others, and hold yourself accountable for maintaining your peace and core values.
Join me for this week's Lunch Break Learning, "Boundaries 101: Knowing When to Draw the Line", to learn strategies for setting AND honoring boundaries. You'll also better understand why your thoughts need boundaries too and how drawing the line can transform your relationships in the bedroom, to the boardroom, and everywhere in between!

I posted a question about perfectionism, procrastination, and overthinking via crowdsourcing and this is what I learned:
Over 80% of professional women between the ages of 34-52 overthink or excessively analyze. The unconscious habit of repeatedly going over the same thoughts, concerns, or scenarios increased self-dout and decreased the confidence in making successful choices.
Ultimately, this leads to increased stress, anxiety, prolonged tasks, and procrastination. As a result, self-care including restful sleep and healthy eating, caused previous fulfilling personal and professional relationships to suffer due to mental exhaustion.
Listen. My conscious mind can't let you go out like that!!! Especially when I see you and I'm sitting on a solution that works. Plus, I know how those draining, destructive, and fear-based thoughts impact how I/you/we show up in the bedroom to the boardroom, and everywhere in between!
Sound familiar?
My love, what you are experiencing is normal, not necessary.
Take a deep breath.
There is a way out of battling between your first thought and second mind.

Let’s play a game called Shameful Truth. List something you do, and you know there’s a better way/option/choice, yet you do it anyway.
When someone posts a relatable comment, reply “shame here 🙋🏽♀️”.
Got it? Cool. Let’s go!
I’ll comment first…
Self-awareness 101:
Be mindful of criticizing their courage when you reject the calling of your own…
Truth & Transparency:
I-ain’t-wanna-buy-the-book.
My adult ADHD kicks in when I’m reading physical books + I’m an auditory learner. It takes me forever, if ever, to complete a physical book.
So when it wasn’t available on Audiobooks, nor the library (audio or physical), I asked Christina Dellard Grove (my SIL) if she had a copy I could borrow. She didn’t.
I checked Amazon, got sidetracked, and although my spirit was telling me to buy it, I didn’t. I didn’t want spend money on a book that I wasn’t convinced I’d read. I had a few others I’d planned to reach out for a copy and never got around to asking.
A few days later, SIL texted and said after reading the synopsis, she ordered the book and found answers within the first few pages. At this point, I felt convicted of some sorts; even a little shameful for not following the wise counsel of someone I respect as a recommended read. I immediately ordered my copy and we agreed to be accountability partners for our dual book club.
I read every word out loud. I cried, confessed, highlighted, Googled words I didn’t know. I gained understanding + confirmation for many of the thoughts and feelings I’v been experiencing while navigating my wilderness season.
Last week, I took this photo after SIL and I shared 3.5 hours of thought-provoking, perspective-sharing, God-centered Q&A conversation about the book + our spiritual journeys. And of course sidebar topics that always ended with, “not sure how I got on this” or “where was I going with that?“ and “now what was I talking about?” 🤔🤦🏽♀️🙃😂
I’d planned on sharing a few of our takeaways; there’s something telling me to pause for now. Just know it’s been a life-changing experience and provides another example of God’s perfect timing.
I love you, SIL (sister-in-law). This is another milestone in our relationship and I’m grateful to have had this experience with you!
Traci Blackmon
Soror Revered Dr. Traci…several times my curiosity kicked in as to why or what led you to suggest this for me. After talking with Christina and completing the book, those questions were answered. Thank you for leading me…us…to an unexpected place to experience God.

Let’s play a game called Scripture Share Sunday. In the comments, drop your favorite scripture or something you feel led to share. Include the book, chapter, verse(s), and version.
Got it? Cool. I’ll go first…
My favorite- Romans 12:2 (NLT)
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
Posted a clip of this on IG. Wasn’t going to share the full video, then I said f*ck it. Soooo…..
Listen…I made a deal with Sabrina Vaughn to make a post today and I came up with the topic, “Do you dream big and play small?”
This ain’t that.🙅🏽♀️
However, my phrase for 2023 is “honor your word” and given the season I’m in, I need God to know He can trust me to do what I say I’m going to do.
Entrepreneurship is exhausting AF and if you ask me today, I’ll say 10 out of 10 DO NOT RECOMMEND.👎🏽 The emotional rollercoaster with unlimited rides…chile…it’s A LOT. And still, I know for me, it’s a ministry. Even on a day like today when I want to throw the past 10-years in the 🗑️, this is my calling to serve and I was moved to share these 3 things:
✨ 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝘀 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹.
Meaning, the last time I/you/we were faced with challenges and felt lost, we got through it by faith. The current situation is no different. I/you/we must stay grounded no matter how hard it feels; faith is what we must have AND use to get through this.
✨ 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂.
I/you/we are experiencing something we’ve not encountered before. Nobody is exempt from the wrath of the enemy. The more we speak of our trust, faith, and belief in the power of God, the stronger he/she/they will attack. Even when I/you/we feel lonely, we must remember this Truth.
✨𝗜𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝘁.
If it didn’t, I wouldn’t be here to remind you that it always does. And what has worked well for me in the past is truly being excited to see how God is going to come through and do what only He can do. I/you/we have an opportunity to practice patient endurance and we will pass this test.
That’s it. That’s the post. I’ll revisit the dream big, play small topic another day.✌🏽
Self-awareness 101:
Let’s be clear.
Proving to people, or someone in particular, that you “got it “ or can handle it by yourself is a sign of self-inflicted stress, not strength…
𝘊𝘩𝘦𝘤𝘬 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘉𝘚®️ 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘶𝘮-𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘥 + 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘤𝘰𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵-𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘯𝘶𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘵𝘩. Entrepreneurship is…
Exhausting. Knowing when to push, pause, pivot, panic, pray, pout, be positive, prepare, not take things personally, perform, persist, pull back, surrender, submit, show up, be still, let go, leave behind, look forward, laugh, cry, work harder, money showers, insufficient funds, look for employment, create opportunities, walk in faith, run with fear, trust the process, accept the Truth, honor time, rest, revisit, reward yourself, remind yourself of why, focus, figure it out, find it within, outsource, learn how, lean in, fall back, walk away, dive in, do more, do less, phone a friend, follow your gut, level up, believe your worth, encourage yourself, extend grace, allow your feelings to flow, be resilient, be obedient, be optimistic, be accountable, understand the assignment, implement the lesson, enjoy the moment, celebrate the wins, remember who TF you are, hype your brand, humble yourself, do it scared, do it again, be confident, be consistent, fight against disappointment, remove judgment, reframe rejection, expose, be vulnerable, breathe, drink your water, move your body, be kind to yourself, treat yourself, check your BS, and repeat.
Listen…I’m 10-years in and the emotional roller coaster STILL be coasting. Here’s what I’m taking away from my latest ride:
1. The gate is narrow and the road is difficult. Only a few ever find it.
2. A confused mind can’t make choices.
3. It’s going to cost you something.
4. It’s not about the money. You spend what you need, and you pay for what you want.
5. People are fickle. God is faithful.
6. Yes, it makes sense. No, you are not crazy.
7. Consistency is not your problem; it’s your solution.
8. To get started, you gotta go. Move.
9. Nervousness is normal.
10. Good, bad, right, and wrong are subjective. Do what works.
To whom this resonates…I’ve been here before. It’s going to work out. It always does. Unlimited rides come with risk and reward.
Sharing with those standing in line.
My calendar is open. You are not alone.
Let’s connect.🫶🏽

It’s been a whole decade😱 since I said f*ck it, signed a $10k educational loan, enrolled in a life coaching certification program, stumbled into entrepreneurship, and announced Coach Shaquan to the world.
At the time, terms like “self-awareness”, “self-love”, “mindset”, and “energy” were rising buzz words . Often I had to explain what a life coach does and how I could help potential clients show up authentic in life to have better personal and professional relationships.
For the past 3 years, my company has primarily focused on business clients and recently, through much resistance 😩, my spirit has been nudging me back to serve the people and teach them how to clean up their S.H.I.T. 😉
In Truth, I’ve missed it. My clients have experienced life-changing results…marriage, divorce, new jobs, new careers (because there is a difference), healthy relationships, reconciliation with family and friendships, relocation, launching businesses, and more.
Now, it feels like the game has changed. Err’body is a coach, yet few have mastered the skill of coaching. People are out here investing their money and not receiving what they were promised. And it sucks for those of us in this industry who have and continue to give blood, sweat, and HELLA tears into our personal development to better serve our clients with integrity.
So here is where I need your help. For those willing to share, please answer these questions:
1. What do you think a Life Coach does?
2. What are you looking for in a Life Coach?
3. If you have worked with a Life Coach, what did they help you do/achieve/overcome/get through?
4. What advice do you have for anyone considering a life coach or questions to ask before investing in their services or programs?
I’ve had the privilege of being trusted by thousands of women (and men) over the course of my career and it my intention to continue serving and doing what I do best… ✌🏽
To my clients, those who’ve had the courage to reach out, and those who walked into a non-planned coaching conversation 🙃), I appreciate you!🫶🏽

📸:
Listen…I don’t understand the concept of “keep your enemies closer”.👎🏽 Because why would you want to reserve space in mind and heart for people who made your blood pressure rise?🤷🏽♀️
Whether it’s someone who has wronged you, or things you’ve blamed yourself for, Here's one small thing you can do to forgive:
𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁. Forgiveness is giving up the hope you can change the past. Often we replay events over and over which fuels our draining + destructive + fear-based thought patterns.
Take a moment to think: What is something you did or didn't do, could've done, should've done or would've said that plays on repeat and take space in your mind?
👉🏽Set a timer (3-minutes is suggested) and write down all the experiences that come up for you.
👉🏽Next, find a mirror and take 3 deep breaths in-and-out.
👉🏽Then, speak out loud what you've written on your list. After each experience, look at your reflection and say…
“ , I forgive you for past hurts and release you from the responsibilities of revenge and regrets.”
👉🏽 Repeat and give your permission to let go, heal, and grow!
Do tell. How do you practice self-forgiveness?
Take what you need.
Leave the rest.✌🏽
When given a choice…

Let’s be clear…
I’d known for awhile that the end of what once was happiness was soon to come. After 13-years of being with the company, it was clear we were no longer good for each other. I was tired of fighting to prove I was “𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩” and they seemingly were consistent in showing me why I was not.
So, on April 4, 2013, we agreed it was best to part ways. I signed my name on the dotted line, left my laptop + badge on the desk, and that was the beginning of how I got here.

As a gift to myself, I honored my word and did something I’ve wanted to do…I recorded my first podcast!🎙️ I’m SO excited to share my journey from corporate to Coach, how I found the woman inside the Wife, and drop these gems from my Check Your BS®️stash.

This!!!!👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽
Because NO is a complete sentence. No further explanation is needed.
I vividly remember the night in 2016 when “check your BS” dropped in my spirit. I thought it was BRILLIANT and got all hype thinking about how I was going to change👏🏽 the 👏🏽 game👏🏽.
Then, I sat on it for a few months thinking there was NO way God wanted me to use a play on “BS” regardless what it stood for! Also, I was afraid of how it made me look as a professional, so I kept the idea between a handful of business friends.😔
Sometime in 2017 I started adding to my posts and the people seemingly liked it,🤷🏽♀️ so I thought once again I was on to something. Then I stopped using it because I’d gotten opportunities to do leadership workshops and again thought it was unprofessional.
In 2018 I was invited to Purina to speak, went off script and said “Check Your BS” out loud.😳 I started sweating and thinking, “🤬 Shaquan, you weren’t supposed to say that.”😩🤦🏽♀️
They loved it, and that was the moment I was confirmed that what I’d been given was more than a hashtag or catch phrase. So in 2019 I made it official and protected my intellectual property.
Since then, I’ve come up with tons of content, curriculum, created a framework, and this is what I use when coaching clients.
So here we are in 2022 and companies are reaching out to me specifically asking for Check Your BS®️, which I teach in my 4-month Leadership Awareness Program and Masterclasses. I legit get paid very well for an an idea God gave to ME.🙌🏽
Writing this post for 2 reasons:
1. Anticipation of seeing this in my memories next year after I launch Coach Shaquan’s Classroom; my online space for you to access my program, classes, and group coaching.
2. Let this serve as a confirmation for anyone sitting on an idea, passion project, or assignment you KNOW was specifically given to you by God. It’s time.
Listen… checking your belief system is a real thing. And it works. Like it really, really, REALLY works for those who are willing to learn.
Life-changing ‘ish. Romans 12:2.
I got receipts, clients, checks, and the current way I live my life to co-sign.✌🏽
Ok, Shaquan…I see you.
