MRH seniors Sam Siemer, Katy Corcoran, and Nate Boyle have been named Academic All-Americans by the National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA). Each year the NSDA highlights students who have excelled in speech and debate in addition to demonstrating academic excellence. Two percent of the 140,000 high school students in speech and debate receive this designation. These seniors have had history-making careers with MRH Speech and Debate, winning numerous championships and qualifying for the State and National tournaments.
Corcoran will study Political Communications at George Washington University in Washington D.C. Siemer is attending Johns Hopkins University to study Economics. Boyle is attending the University of Kansas to major in Political Science and Pre-Law. Boyle is also joining the KU Debate Team, one of the most successful college programs in the nation.

Following her extraordinary career at MRH, Madelyn Dittrich’s hitting the road next fall to study psychology and play volleyball at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois. At a signing ceremony Thursday, Madelyn was flanked by an array of family members, teammates and current and former principals and coaches.
“I am very excited to have Madelyn join our Knox Volleyball family!” said Knox Head Volleyball Coach Maliah Blakemore in a statement. “I was impressed by her skill, but more by her character and the way she carries herself. Can't wait to see what these years at Knox have in store for her. Go Prairie Fire!”
Madelyn Dittrich was awarded $200,000 in academic and leadership scholarships at Knox. She maintained a 4.0 grade point average for two semesters in the early college program. She will graduate from St. Louis Community College with an Associates degree this weekend (prior to her high school graduation!) and will have an astounding 73 hours of college credit as she exits MRH. She has more than 100 volunteer hours her senior year at the Animal Protective Association, MRH Youth Sports volleyball, and at a local elementary school.
On the court, Madelyn was one of only two players in her conference to be ranked in four statistical categories in St. Louis Post-Dispatch school rankings. She was 29th in points per serve, 34th in serve efficiency, 11th in serve percentage and 12th in points among all schools in the St. Louis area. Madelyn played her winters with Missouri Volleyball Academy.
While other volleyball opportunities existed, Madelyn chose Knox after a visit with Coach Blakemore and Dr. Heather Hoffmann of the Psychology Department where she plans on majoring in psychology and neuroscience.
Way to go, Madelyn!
It was a real nail-biter of a game yesterday for our baseball team. We hope to come back next year and fight even harder. You can learn more about this season in the district newsletter out next Monday!
MRH '23 graduate Janiya Lagrone brought an inspirational message to Joe Sausele's Intro to Internship class on Wednesday. Janiya, a MO Options graduate, joined the Elevate Program at CASCO in Maplewood where she works as a mechanical technician. She learned about the program and applied through Career Connections. In the fall, Janiya will enter St. Louis Community College as she works toward becoming a mechanical engineer. Thanks for sharing your remarkable success story!
The forecast is looking terrific for Sunday's Class of '24 Senior Parade! Let's give 'em a huge turnout along the route!
Students from our high school AP bio and APES visited Dr. Marcus Foston’s lab at the Washington University in St. Louis McKelvey School of Engineering. Dr. Foston is an engineer currently focusing on synthetic biology.
Students then visited BioSTL. Students were able to speak with a variety of researchers and entrepreneurs who are developing advances in science and medicine. BioGenerator houses over 50 different startup biotech companies. Thank you, science teacher, David Ganey, for arranging this amazing opportunity for our kids as they consider their next steps in life and bringing cutting-edge science to our curriculum!
Congrats to Freshman Ceci Rayburn who will perform and study in the exclusive University of Missouri-St. Louis Latin Jazz Camp this July!
This camp is a 4 day intensive study of Afro-Cuban and Afro-Brazilian styles that have influenced “Latin Jazz”. This experience brings together top professionals and top performing jazz ensemble students from the region.
The camp is led by Professor Matt Henry of UMSL, who is an authority on Latin Percussion and one of the most respected percussion performers in the country.
These girls put in their all! It's been an amazing season. 🙂⚽️💓
When you see Principal Huffman and her students meticulously assembling the senior yard signs, you know it's May.
Please join us in congratulating junior Grace Floyd (right) and sophomore Macey Gabbert on being selected for the Missouri All-State Vocal Jazz Ensemble. They were two of 16 total students selected from the entire state to participate. We are INCREDIBLY proud of both of them for this accomplishment.
Sure, it's the students and coach who bring home the trophies, but the success of the MRH speech/debate/mock trial teams hinges on support from the students' families. Thanks to those who gathered on Thursday evening to celebrate this remarkable group of scholars.
