🌟 Recognizing Liam Alberti, our second recipient of the Division 3 College $2,500 College Scholarship in partnership with 16 Lyrics! 🌟

Liam, from Guilford, CT, is set to attend Ithaca College this Fall, where he will play lacrosse and pursue his dreams.

From day one, Liam has pushed himself harder in the classroom and on the field, always looking for ways to be greater every day. He strives to be there for his peers and act beyond self-interest. When asked what does ‘Stepping into your Greater’ mean, Liam stated “To me, stepping into my greater means putting my 100% into everything I do, not only for myself but for those around me as well…Pushing myself harder in the classroom and on the field, going out of my way to be there for my peers, and going out of my way to not only thank my parents, but to thank everyone who has helped me throughout my time here.”

Accepted into Ithaca's Physical Therapy 6-year Doctorate Program, Liam aims to eventually run his own physical therapy practice. He looks forward to learning from professors, classmates, and colleagues, bringing these lessons into his future leadership roles.

We are incredibly proud of Liam’s journey and his relentless spirit. Join us in celebrating his achievements and cheering him on as he embarks on this exciting new chapter at Ithaca College! 🌟📚🏆

🌟 Congratulations to Tatiyana Blacknall, one of our finalists for the Division 3 $2500 College Scholarship in partnership with 16 Lyrics

Hailing from Curtis Bay, MD, Tatiyana is an exceptional student heading to Wesleyan WV College this Fall to play Lacrosse. As a standout player in both lacrosse and basketball at Northeast High School, she has shown remarkable tenacity and dedication, maintaining a GPA of 3.5 or above while excelling in sports.

Tatiyana’s journey hasn’t been easy. Growing up in a predominantly white community, she often felt culturally isolated and faced microaggressions. Her determination to attend a diverse university is fueled by her aspiration to motivate and inspire Afro-Latinas and other marginalized women. She envisions a future in business and marketing, where she aims to ensure diverse representation and amplify authentic voices.

When asked what “Stepping into Your Greater” means, Tatiyana replied, “First and foremost, this means being my authentic self, staying true to my values, and pursuing what truly matters to me…this includes sports, fellowship, and mentorship. For myself to become greater, I am committed to building strong relationships, developing a growth mindset, and always prioritizing my physical and mental health. Being greater also means learning and growing continuously.”

We are incredibly proud of Tatiyana and her relentless spirit. Join us in cheering her on as she takes the next step towards achieving her dreams! 🌟📚🏆

*Disclaimer* At the time Tatiyana applied, she had committed to attending Wells College. After paying fees and dues, she received notice in May that the school was permanently closing, causing her to frantically pivot and explore other options. Wesleyan WV College, which she had visited last year, became her new destination after reaching out to them again. Although this is not an official D3 college, we honor Tatiyana for who she is as a leader, scholar and Royal Athlete!

We are pleased to award our second 2021 HBCU Scholarship to Ife’-Michaela Spencer who will be attending Howard University this Fall.

Ife’-Michaela will major in computer science with a minor in video production. Her goal is to become a video game designer and start up her own company. Ife’-Michaela is a leader and true innovator among her peers. She started a STEAM club on her high school's campus which focused on giving students the opportunity to get exposed to STEAM related careers by doing experiments, projects, etc. She started this club, her freshman year and now it has 40+ students on their roster!

When asked to tell of a time she had to ‘Grind over Matter’, Ife’-Michaela wrote, “I believe that throughout my life I have used the motto, "Grind over Matter" to overcome the hate. The first time I noticed this was when I was 8 years old and someone had spray paint the ‘n-word’ on my driveway. I didn’t know the true degrading meaning of the n-word, but I just knew when I saw my dad’s face with a face of disgust and anger, it made me so sad. It didn’t stop there, I started to notice the microaggressions from teachers and peers or being called the n-word straight to my face, the list goes on. I will always be black and I am proud of it but it's hard to be black in the very World we live in. I go to a predominantly white high school and we never celebrate Black History Month. It baffled me that it wasn’t even on the school calendar. I took it upon myself to join the Black Student Union and ran for Vice President to get this changed. Months upon months, I had meetings with the school district until they finally agreed to honor it. It was tiring but I was so happy because, at the end of the day, I wasn’t just doing it for myself, my younger brother, or the current students on my campus. I was doing it for the younger generation of black students that will step on my campus so they can feel like they have a purpose and they belong.“

We are so honored and thrilled to present this scholarship to Ife’-Michaela and look forward to the achievements and growth she will have during her time at Howard and beyond! Congratulations Ife’-Michaela

Our scholarship looks a little different this year, but the excitement remains the same.
Delighted to present one of our HBCU $750 scholarships to Marques Lewis.

Marques served as the elected 2020-2021 Student Advisor, and a two year captain of his high school basketball team.
Marques will attend Tennessee State University, where he will study
Engineering . When asked What his educational career goals are?
He wrote “I want to be the first black man in my family to be a Mechanical Engineer.”

When asked about a time he’s had to 'Grind over Matter', Marques shared his health battle with Type One Diabetes (T1D) which he was diagnosed with at the age of 9….”I was determined not to let this condition derail me from enjoying my life. So, I learned how to control my blood sugars throughout the day and night as well during my practices and other activities I love. In those moments fell I can not, I pray, talk to my friends or family or just rest. I do not have a pity party, I just do my best. I have a routine where I can maintain a healthy balance of diet and exercise and stay hydrated throughout the day.”

Marques credits his “fantastic support team consisting of mom, brothers, aunt, and uncle, grandma, cousins, friends, basketball coaches, and most importantly medical team.”

Marques ended his application by writing “I live by this quote from the great Michael Jordan. He stated that ‘Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, do not turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.’
This is what I am doing every day of my life. Just like Mike, I cannot allow anything to stop me from achieving my goals or dreams of becoming a mechanical engineer.”

We are extremely proud to present our fourth annual HBCU/ D3 scholarship to Marques Lewis! Congratulations young king!
