Holy moly!!!! 🤩 What an incredible night last night!!! Thank you to everyone who came out and joined us for our last Groovin’ of the summer! A great big THANK YOU to Shagwüf for rocking the house and putting on an amazing performance and to Chicano Boy Taco & Yummy Hibachi Express for providing the delicious food!! ☺️🥰 We had so much fun and hope you did too!! I (Jon) was getting things going in the brewhouse yesterday morning when it occurred to me that this little bucket must be the longest running piece of equipment we have here at Redbeard. It, along with a sister, has got to be at least 17 years old. After getting a BFA in Theatre, and then being laid off from the only Equity theatre in VA, to then working in Construction management, to be laid off during a housing downturn, I decided to start working for myself, and I began taking correspondence classes in Real Estate Appraisal. A friend of mine was a Sous Chef at The Old Original Bookbinders Restaurant at the time and he said he could get me a job as a Back Waiter (fancy name for Busboy); so for the next nine months I did the correspondence classes during the day and fancy Busboy'ed at night. And during that period is when I took up homebrewing. I asked my buddy (Abrahm? I'm bad with names.) if the kitchen guys could hold onto plastic buckets for me to use to make beer, and he obliged. With some pickle buckets that were not gonna work as fermenters for the pickle stank (if I only knew where the market would end up, right?), and a couple of these 3 gallon MINOR’S Foodservice chicken base buckets. They have been used for just about everything over the years. Primary fermentation, soaking parts, carrying stuff around, collecting spent yeast, and for the last couple years, what you see in the attached video, blow off buckets to help contain happy little yeast farts. I used to make fun of my father for holding onto things, clearly I'm no better.
