Good Afternoon to you all, as I have tried my best to be open and up front with you for these past 11 years, we were just visited by someone from the Board of Health Massage Therapy division. According to this inspector because we offer back facials, and during our regular facials we treat the shoulders and decollette this is in violation of our spa license. The inspector came to us disguised as a client and served me with a Cease and Desist order from performing any "massage" since we are not a massage establishment, along with a fine of $1000!!!! As I completely understand this to some degree, I NEVER would do anything underhanded, unethical or illegal EVER! I have never performed a massage on anyone nor has any esthetician that has ever worked here!
When I graduated from school performing back facials was taught as well as addressing the shoulders and decollette. My mistake, I take responsibility for that, HOWEVER again I would never do anything illegal or deceitful in my business practice.
As I read this citation I see they intend to attach this incident to our record as performing unlicensed activity, which just devastates me personally and professionally to the core of my being.
While we will absolutely comply with the DOH result, we do intend to seek further clarity on this incident. Most importantly I wanted all of you to hear this from me first and directly, as a business owner and your trusted skin care professional. I hope you all understand moving forward that effective immediately there will be no back treatments offered here nor any form of skin manipulation to any parts of the body below the neck, nor any cryotherapy on any body parts except the face and neck.
On a final note, I hope and pray that this information will help someone , there must be silver lining here somewhere.
