The South Florida Cultural Consortium, an alliance of the arts councils of Broward, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe and Palm Beach Counties grants visual and media artists with awards at either the $15,000 or $7,500 level. Established 1988, the SFCC has awarded over $4 million in grants to more than 300 artists. In addition to receiving the grant, the artists take part in an exhibition hosted and organized by a visual arts institution in one of the five counties. Florida recently vetoed ALL state funding for the arts. For Martin County organizations alone, this represents over $500,000 that will now not be granted.
Key facts to consider:
> $9 goes into the local economy for every $1 invested in Arts & Culture by Florida.
> Martin County is home to over 526 arts-related businesses.
> Over 620,000 Martin County residents and tourists participate annually in arts and culture activities.
