Congrats to Nick Smith on being inducted into the IGFA Hall Of Fame this past Saturday! Pictured is the fly I tied for Nick that got him his 500th Blue Marlin on display at Johnny Morris’ Wonders of Wildlife National Museum and Aquarium. A big thank you to Nick for all the support over the years.

Can anyone guess why this fly is named the Feather Duster? Designed for Atlantic Blue Marlin, the added feathers and marabou give this fly a bulkier presentation in the water representing more of a bonita shape when wet.

A dozen Atlantic Sailfish tube flies headed out! These are “Nick Smith” spec with 3/4” tubing and drilled out popper heads. These flies measure in at 6” without popper and 6.5” with popper.

In 2018 I started developing a fly for Nick Smith that could be reused after multiple fish. After many variations we settled on a Yak Hair baitfish. The Yak hair doesn’t get tangled in the bill of the Marlin and the 3/4” tubing allows the bimins of the tippet section to slide through effortlessly allowing the mate to retain the fly after a release. These can be used with a popper head or without allowing a presentation lower in the water column.
