Stamping out mini stars may just be my new favourite thing. I have to do this when the kiddos aren’t around or else they want to play with these stamps and I’ll never get any work done. One of the downsides of being a baker is that the kiddos (especially S) find my work very exciting and want to “help”. 😬 Please excuse the v shaky camera work. The first time I made a layered cake was for my daughter’s 4th (or maybe 5th?🤔) birthday. She wanted a layered-rainbow cake. I made the cake with a box mix to eliminate any mishaps but the real challenge was frosting the cake. Crumbs were everywhere and the white frosting wasn’t white anymore. I spent a lot of time literally picking out the crumbs to make the cake look presentable! My biggest takeaway from all this? Always, always frost a cold cake! After the cakes are baked and come to room temp, I wrap them up in clingfilm and pop them in the freezer overnight preferably. Let them defrost in the fridge (still wrapped up to prevent them from drying out) and then do the crumb coat. SO MUCH EASIER! 😂 Trial and error is really the best way to learn. And Google.
