This and other petitions are a powerful tool where the power of WE THE PEOPLE as a collective take the drivers seat and by way of using the systems in place we make the change happen we wish to see in the world.

For example:
When I was living in Superior, Colorado and learned about lighting shelters and baseball fields being built with open space funds I knew it was not right. There were dozens of groups who had been fighting for nearly 5 years on the subject but things were not changing. I asked around and my neighbor who was an attorney, Carla, told me that it wasn't a special interest group that was going to change things but rather the individuals who voted for their tax paying dollars to go to open space and what their understanding of the word "open space" meant and all I had to do was create a petition clearly stating that we citizens didn't define "open space" to include baseball fields and lighting shelters when we voted and I went door knocking one weekend and 9.9 out of 10 people agreed and signed my paper petition and I present it to the Town at a board meeting and they voted to change the verbiage of Ballot 2A to exclude ball fields and lighting shelters.

The entire process is so much easier today and you can create a petition for almost anything. The website below is free and easy to use. It has the entire process from writing your petition to sharing it and then once it reaches the critical mass needed it will present it to the respective party responsible for the change, including our government officials and you can track the progress along the way.
