SOLD OUT - for season.

Peach Trees ready for sale -

Only 9 left - very nice large trees. Please message me to schedule a time.

A blue-ribbon, all-purpose peach!

Redhaven Peach trees produce luscious, top-quality fruit. This popular variety is known for being a top producer of medium-sized peaches. Fragrant, pink flowers blossom in the spring. When the fruit ripens in July, you’ll enjoy bushels of sweet peaches with almost fuzzless skin over firm, creamy-textured yellow flesh. These freestone peaches are great as a fresh snack or for canning and freezing.

Redhaven is heavy-bearing and easy to grow and maintain. The branches have a spreading nature, and this variety is disease-resistant to leaf spot. It is a self-pollinating fruit tree, making it great for smaller gardens and backyard orchards. Since this tree is so vigorous, we recommend regular pruning and thinning.

This peach tree originates from South Haven, Michigan in 1930,

We haven't had this little rain in May since 1933. May is the key growing season for our crops and lawn / garden things. If you are not watering frequently, you will have issues. New trees from last fall or this spring especially need water now as the roots have yet to reach far enough to sustain themselves. If the grass is not green around your trees, you are not watering enough.

If you can't be there to water - water bags are an option- search for tree watering bag on Amazon. These things will work by slowly releasing water over time - a better option than a hose watering quickly - where the water doesn't soak in.

Water - water - water !

Its time for us to place 2024 tree orders for inbound material spring of 24. Please mention some trees that you like. This helps guide me in procuring trees that are preferred in our area. What trees do you like to see planted here in northwest Ohio?

Also - If you would like ANY tree in any size up to 2" caliper, now is the time to order it for spring. These trees are from the state of Oregon and one of the nation's best growers. Trees would arrive sometime in March 24. You can select from bare root (save money) or container trees, and still save money. Order deadline is soon, although I can add through fall.

05/28/2023

WATER WATER WATER - With present conditions and no rain in sight, it will be important to keep water on trees that were planted this spring and even last fall. The roots have yet to develop enough to reach the water source necessary to survive. Water will be key to keeping your newly planted trees alive and stress free.

Kousa Dogwoods ready to go this weekend. They are in #7 pot and around 5-6' tall. Message me to schedule appointment.

Dogwood trees are widely known for their delicate beauty, and the kousa variety adds a toughness that makes this species an excellent choice for home landscapes and urban areas. The tree also makes a visual contribution year-round. In spring, it produces a heavenly array of star-like blooms. In summer, its intriguing canopy of layered branches provides shade and beauty. In autumn, it offers spectacular bright red color. Even in winter, this tree has an appeal all its own with bark that resembles a jigsaw puzzle.
The spring blooms are probably the tree’s largest selling point — and its most misunderstood. The white “petals” aren’t actually petals at all. They are modified leaves called bracts that surround the small, greenish-yellow, insignificant flowers.
• This tree is considered both a flowering tree and an ornamental tree. It is typically planted for both its visual interest and profusion of spring flowers.
• The kousa dogwood grows to a height of 15-25' and a spread of around 25' at maturity.
• This tree grows at a slow to medium rate, with height increases of anywhere from less than 12" to 24" per year.
• Full sun and partial shade are best for this tree, meaning it prefers a minimum of four hours of direct, unfiltered sunlight each day.
• Blooms May–June, with distinctive white bracts surrounding small, greeinish-yellow flowers.
• Is a good choice for planting near utility lines, buildings or walls.
• Features dark green leaves that are 2–4" long and elliptic-ovate in shape.
• Has a beautiful form with horizontal branching.
• Grows in a rounded shape.
• Requires mulch around the trunk to protect it from lawnmower or w**d cutter damage that could cause poor health.
• Produces pinkish-red to red fruit that attracts songbirds.
• Provides great fall color, with leaves turning purple and scarlet.
• Is tougher than the native flowering dogwood when it comes to disease and pests.
• Develops a camouflage pattern of tan and brown on the trunk due to exfoliation.

The American sycamore is one of the largest hardwood trees in North America. It can grow up to 100 feet tall, with an equally majestic spread of 40 to 70 feet.
• Grows more than two feet per year
• Produces maple-like leaves and one-inch seed balls
• Sometimes develops multiple trunks
• Is relatively drought tolerant
Sycamores grow insanely fast and live for hundreds of years. American Sycamore tree is a sturdy tree that can tolerate extreme weather conditions, pollution, and salt. The Sycamore provides excellent shade with its dense and broad canopy.

Balled and burlap cage – ready to go right in the ground as they sit (no need to unwrap). They are heavy, so you will need means to transport.

Tough Insect year out there - Check your fruit trees for mites, aphids and other insects like beetles right now. (All young trees for that matter). Insects are as bad as they have been in years. Look close under the leaves for insects. While hard to see, these will suck the energy out of the tree and limit growth - maybe even discoloring or dropping leaves. As they are sometimes hard to see - one method is to take a clean white sheet of paper and place under the leaves. Shake the leaves a bit. Then, check the paper for specs that are moving if you look really closely.

Control - Use a properly labeled spray. Fruit trees - I use Ortho fruit tree spray which is relatively safe. There are many others as well, check and follow label. I do not recommend ANY spray that has sulfur in it as it can burn. I do not recommend imidacloprid (Trade name Merit) on any tree that you are eating the fruit from this season. Imidacloprid is a systemic that you pour on the root zone, and it is absorbed up through the tree.

Next season - get a preventative measure in place with early season spray after the trees fully Leafs out and monitor closely for further application. And - always follow directed mix rate. More is not always better!

Happy growing -

H
Be careful of any application in extreme heat. Usually with spray you can get a handle on the situation.
