POND HOCKEY CLASSIC DOUBLES DONATION

Thanks to your generous and enthusiastic support of our event (ice or no ice) the Syracuse Pond Hockey Classic was able to double our donation from last year, writing a check for $10,000 to Luke's Army Pediatric Cancer Research Fund through the St. Baldrick's Foundation.

The committee proudly presented a check to Luke's dad and friend of the tournament, Scott (pictured far left), on Friday night at Kitty Hoynes.

Today, dozens of brave folks will grace that same stage to shave their heads and fundraise for the Kitty Hoynes St. Baldricks 3/3/2024 Event, which has raised millions of dollars in support of pediatric cancer research. The PH Classic is proud to support this really important cause. See you at Kitty's and on the ice again in 2025!

KEY SPONSOR McKie Sports READY TO DEFEND TITLE SATURDAY

When we think of the Syracuse Pond Hockey Classic it's hard not to think of McKie Sports, a long-standing, generous sponsor of our event but also tourney winner in 2020 and 2022.

McKie Sports owner Shaun Norfolk said it's been his pleasure to support the event since the beginning.

"We always try to stay involved in the community. When this came around, as a Corcoran grad, with it being played in Strathmore it was important to get involved and try and support the old guys who still want to live the dream."

And while he says his team's dominance on the pond hockey ice is "no big deal," the guys are ready to own the trophy again in 2024.

"We have people assembling teams to make sure we don't go for that three-peat, but they'll have their work cut out for them!"

When Part 2: Can't stay for the day? Come on down for the championship game around 7 p.m. -- under the LIGHTS!

Who: 16 teams are fired up to go head to head in this round-robin tournament. And your friends are gonna be there!

Food: Limp Lizard food truck on site!

Drinks: Adult bevs by T.J. Sheehan and hot chocolate provided by Kinney Drugs

Did you know that our tournament is entirely volunteer-run? This labor of love is only possible with the help of lots of folks and we could use some more on Saturday, Jan. 27. And -- it's super fun!

Our tournament is in need of volunteers for the following tasks:

➡️ Ice maintenance (We'll train you!)
➡️ Scorekeeping
➡️ Beer pouring (Must be able to pour beer while skating. Just kidding; but that would be awesome.)

POND HOCKEY IS ON THE MOVE IN 2024

Well folks, Mother Nature is once again not cooperating with our urge for ice on the pond for the Syracuse Pond Hockey Classic on Saturday, Jan. 27. BUT -- we're thrilled to announce that the tournament will be held at the Clinton Square ice rink in downtown Syracuse instead!

While we love having the tournament in Upper Onondaga Park, we're excited for how this new venue will give everyone a fun new experience this year!

The tournament will begin as planned at 10 a.m. but our final rounds will happen UNDER THE LIGHTS with the championship game at 7 p.m.!

Keep an eye out for more details coming soon here about the event but start telling your friends that Clinton Square will be THE place to be in just three short weeks!

He's gonna hate this post but we're over it. The Syracuse Pond Hockey Classic is Tim's brainchild and would not exist without him. We're thankful for our fearless leader and all that he's done over the years to make this fantastic community event a reality.

Instead, we will live stream it around 2 pm from one of our favorite establishments, Kitty Hoynes Irish Pub & Restaurant. Also, for those that ordered hats, we'll be reaching out to deliver or ship them out to you. We hope to see you there!
