The Therion Wasp Found in the Green River Watershed
The Therion wasp is a genus of wasp that can be very difficult to tell apart from one another because there are so many species. They live where they find prey which means they have a wide range of habitats. They have long antennae and long, flared abdomens which end with ovipositors used to insert eggs into a host. These wasps often perch vertically. Although they may look scary, they rarely sting, so don't worry if you see one in the wild. Adults groom themselves often and thoroughly, as seen in this video. They work in a specific order from top to bottom of their bodies. Please feel free to help us identify this species if you have some entomology skills!
