Today's watercolor experiment.
Mari Lwyd" is Welsh creation. From Wikipedia:
"The men would carry the Mari Lwyd to local houses, where they would request entry through song. The householders would be expected to deny them entry, again through song, and the two sides would continue their responses to one another in this manner. If the householders eventually relented, the team would be permitted entry and given food and drink."

Holiday traditions are fascinating to me. The Mari Lwyd, for me, is both terrifying and hilarious. Sometimes they're made from hobby horses and sometimes more elaborate designs use actual horse skulls. Anyway here is mine.

Can you see the faint lines of pencil? Part of my watercolor process is lightly sketching the image and then removing a lot of the graphite with a kneaded eraser. This process somewhat prevents the watercolors getting muddy around the lines of the images.

This image doesn't have a title. It's just something that was knocking around in my head. 🫴🪄⭐

I discovered this lil guy in my sketchbook. A young friend drew the figure. I embellished it with floral designs.

Playing around with gelli plate printing and acrylic shaping tools.

The color palette is inspired by Oklahoma landscapes I associate with road trips along highways and county roads. Muted greens travel along lines of the horizon to combine with the colors of foliage and wildflowers.

So excited to continue exploration of this process.
