Dallas ACCT-A-171508 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to behavioral concerns. Dallas must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by Monday August 19th at 10 A.M. Should Dallas's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.
Dallas is a 7 year old male who came to the shelter on 8/13 as an owner surrender due to the owner's health. The owner's family described him as mostly housetrained, fully crate trained, high energy, and good on leash. Since being surrendered, Dallas has understandably been stressed due to no longer being in the home that he's known his entire life. He mounts his handlers due to the stress and can be difficult to remove. Once removed, he will quickly mount again. Due to Dallas's level of stress, he is timestamped and is looking for placement with a rescue partner or a low-stress home with an adopter and no children under 15.
On 8/16, Dallas had good dog meets with three different dogs (two males and a female). He seemed to like the young male the most, but besides a little lip licking, did not have any issues with any of the dogs.
On 8/16 staff noted: Happy sweet boy. Tried hu***ng me once inside + going back to kennel.
8/14 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:
KNOWN HISTORY:
Owner surrender - owner health
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Dallas was curled up on his bed when I approached. He got right up when I called him and came to the door with soft eyes and a low to mid wagging tail. He was easy to leash and came right out once secured.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls minimally
HANDLING:
When we got to the room Dallas was very interested in all the smells. He sniffed me curiously and allowed some head pets. I offered him treats but he was too busy sniffing around at first. He started chuffing and licking the floor; but I had a female dog in the room right before him, and I handled a dog in labor recently, so the smells were overwhelming him. I took him for a short walk to see if getting away from all the female smells would help, but he continued to keep his nose to the ground the entire time. He allowed all handling except around his feet. He would quickly pull them back whenever I touched them, but never escalated. I returned to the room to see if Dallas would be interested in toys, but he showed no interest. Dallas began mounting me at this point, and held on very strongly. He was very difficult to remove, and gave me hard eyes and whale eye when I tried to remove him. I was able to get him off, but he jumped up again and held on tight. I was able to remove him again, but his eyes had gone blank and bloodshot, so I decided to return him to kennel. At the door of his kennel he mounted again, and remained difficult to pull off. I was able to get him off, but he did not want to return to kennel. I had to step my one leg he kept mounting into the kennel, which he followed, and then quickly remove myself and hold him in the kennel with a short arm. Overall, Dallas appears very stressed and sexually motivated.
PLAY:
No interest
TOYS:
No interest
COLOR LEVEL & ANY RECOMMENDATIONS:
Blue
On 8/13 Dallas was found to be in good health. He had pink gums with mild staining and was noted to be very friendly until he got vaccinated.

Anyone need a little Baby Jorgito sweetness on this Saturday afternoon?
In walls of grey, I lay alone,
Where echoes speak in somber tone.
Once a home, now just a space,
A longing heart, a slower pace.
My eyes, they search for you each day,
In every shadow, come what may.
The gate swings open, hope ignites,
But fades with the falling of the night.
I dream of fields and running free,
Of joyful barks and your pat on me.
But dreams are fleeting, like the breeze,
That whispers through forgotten trees.
I've much to give, love yet to spend,
For loyalty, I'm known to lend.
A noble friend, through thick and thin,
I wait for you, to love again.
So here I sit, with hope's faint glow,
A faithful friend, despite the woe.
For in my heart, I still believe,
In a forever home, I will receive.

SAFE WITH RSVP RESCUE
10 month old BRUNO has been given the euth command !
Coming from a breeder, ONE WEEK WITH THE IRRESPONSIBLE OWNERS, DUMPED AT THE ACC because their parents said no more dogs ! They already have 3. Instead of bringing this puppy back to the breeder, they chose the easiest way out, throw the puppy out !
Bruno is a good puppy, he got along with everyone he met, including the 3 resident dogs. The owners said Bruno is social and affectionate, good with strangers, and kids ( he lived with a child in his owner’s home for a week), and did great with their dogs. Bruno also knows basic commands and will gladly execute them.
At his intake, he was LOOSE AND FRIENDLY, but he freaked out when they tried to put the muzzle on him. This broke Bruno’s trust in them, and he has not relaxed enough to start trusting them again. When he is presented with a leash, he would hide at the back of his kennel.
This is a puppy who has lost trust in humans, after being passed on from one place to another in a short amount of time. From being a confident, happy puppy, he has become fearful and distrustful. People who don’t think about consequences and DO NOT PLAN AHEAD, should not own pets.
Thing is, animals are more resilient and sometimes, more intelligent than humans in some ways. Bruno will feel safe and be trusting again when he is in a home, with loving and experienced people who will give him time to process his situation. He had an adverse reaction to the muzzle. 💔 and he needs time to recover from it. Unfortunately the ACC isn’t going to give him time.
Please help this puppy boy whose life is just starting and he has had a rough start. People just don’t think that animals are thoughtful and feeling creatures. They get scared, just like us. Bruno has great owner surrender notes, he loves people, and he even did good with the owner’s visitors. Please don’t let them waste his life away. Please help Bruno ! Get him seen!

PLAYGROUP NOTES – DOG TO DOG SUMMARY:
8/13/24: Numada greets the other dog at the gate with a soft body. He then turns to handler and attempts to jump on them, remaining loose but focused on handlers hands.
ENRICHMENT NOTES
8/14/24: Numada is standing in the front of his kennel as handlers approach. He is double leashed due to safety concerns of redirecting onto handlers. He is offered treats and once the first leash is secured he begins leash biting and pulling the leash into the kennel. He is redirected with treats and the second leash is secured. Numada continues to bite the leash while in kennel and once out the kennel, continues and pulls on the leash, lowering his body posture and vocalizing with a low growl. Numada is again redirected using treats and once he and handlers exit the room he does not leash bite further. Numada is taken to the backyard for his walk and treats are thrown intermittently to motivate Numada to continue walking. Numada will hyper focus on handlers when as treats are offered and will stare at handlers hands even when treats are not present. He continues to wait for treats however and does not escalate further when demanding treats. After a while outside Numada uses the bathroom and is brought back inside without further issue.
8/13/24: Staff reported that during evening walks, Numada was at the front muzzle punching the kennel door, when attempting to leash with treats he would sniff the treats but had no interest and instead focused on trying to mouth the leash. Handler had Numada sit in kennel and he then took the treat and allowed handler to leash him. Handler took him out the kennel where he kennel fought, hard barking and growling at neighboring dogs. He was kept away but was pulling very hard. At some point when Handler was trying to keep Numada away as they were exiting the room Numada snapped at the leash and towards handler's legs. As handler was walking towards the driveway Numada kept flipping his head towards the leash and handler. Outside Numada relieved himself immediately, saw a passing dog and pulled towards the dog. Handler kept Numada away and when this was done Numada would turn towards handler and jumped at the leash and handler. Handler straight armed him in response and Numada continued to jump at handler. Handler then turned and quickly brought Numada back inside where he returned him to kennel without further issue.
8/8/24: Numada is at the front barking and jumping up slightly on his two front paws. Handler leashes him and removes him from kennel where he begins cage fighting with neighboring dogs, lunging and growling towards them. Handler has to use their leg to brace themselves. Handler has to go back in the room due to a member of the public moving across the hallway with their dog. Numada spins around and snaps at handler’s leash, handler straight arms him and leaves the room once hall is clear. He is taken out to the street where he continuously looks up at handler’s leash. He then does brief zoomies before spinning around towards handler. After, handler elects to bring him to the yard where he sniffs around and reverse sneezing. He is returned to kennel without further issue
8/6/24: Numada was observed to to hard bark at dogs while walking past their kennel.-VLD
8/2/24- Numada was at the front of his kennel with a loose and wiggly body, he was easily leashed. When exiting the room, he had a slight pull towards the passing kennels and was barking. Once in the hallway, Numada kept barking. He was taken for a street walk. He would pull hard and he randomly turned towards handler, giving a head flip barking at the handler. Due to size handler straight armed with one arm and tossed treats. He sniffed the treats but didn't eat any. He didn't attempt any further head flips during their walk. He had no reaction to people passing. He was aloof with handler throughout the walk. He was taken for his assessment, he was a little more social with handlers in the room and allowed a handler to pet his head and neck. When attempting to touch his neck by assessor, he did a head flip. Assessment was ended due to not stressing Numada further. He was releashed and unclipped by one handler while the other called his attention away. When returning to his kennel, he gave a tug towards the neighboring kennel. Handler was able to tug him away and he went into kennel without issue.
INTAKE BEHAVIOR:

Summary:: Allowed handling
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
Date of initial:: 8/1/2024
Summary:: Aloof, thrash a bit
ENERGY LEVEL:
Numada is described as active and enthusiastic. They will need daily mental and physical activity to keep them engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm. We recommend feeding with puzzle feeders and food-dispensing toys. And we recommend using force-free, reward-based training techniques for Numada.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: New Hope Only
Recommendations:
No children (under 13)
Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:
No children (under 13): Due to head flipping towards handlers, and we recommend an adult only home.
Place with a New Hope partner: Due to all the most recent noted concerns displayed in a Care Center environment, the behavior department recommends Numada be placed with a New Hope placement partner who is able to provide an experienced adult-only foster home. A period of decompression is recommended to allow Numada to acclimate comfortably to his new environment; force-free, reward based training only is advised when introducing Numada to new and unfamiliar situations.
Potential challenges:
Leash-biting
On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration
Fearful/potential for defensive aggression
Strength/leash pulling
Potential challenges comments:
Fearful: Numada is fearful and head flip on one occasion. He was observed to lower his body and growl when he is uncomfortable. He will need a slow approached when meeting new people. Please see the handout on Decompression.
On Leash Reactivity: Numada has been observed to randomly head flip towards the handler and bark. Numada has also been observed to hard bark at the other dogs in the kennel room. Numada will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach them to look at you rather than other dogs. We recommend a front clip harness to help manage this behavior. Please see handout on On Leash Reactivity and Barrier Frustration.
Leash Pulling: Numada is a very large, strong dog with the capability to pull over an average adopter. Their adopter must be prepared and able to handle a dog of this size and strength. It is recommended that they be walked on a front clip harness or head halter, which will help diminish their strength through leverage, and that they be trained using positive reinforcement, reward based training to not pull on leash. Please see handout on Leash Manners.
Leash-biting: Numada was observed to leash bite when frustrated. Positive reinforcement should be used to manage this behavior. Please see the handout on Leash Manners.
