It’s a rare occurrence when a school’s boys’ and girls’ basketball team make the state championship in the same year. Central High School is a rare breed.
For the first time in school history, Little Rock Central Basketball and Little Rock Central Women's Basketball have clinched a spot in the Class 6A Finals. The girls will try to win their first-ever state title against the reigning 6A champion, Conway, on Friday at 6 p.m. The boys are set for “Round 3” this season against Bryant at 7:45 p.m.
The Tigers are in pursuit of the program’s 20th state championship, first state championship since sharing it in 2020 with Conway because of COVID. Central Boys last outright title was back in 1999 when then future Arkansas Razorback and NBA player Joe Johnson took down rival North Little Rock.
Central seeks become the first school to sweep the 6A Finals since North Little Rock did it in 2022.
