Re-elect Kimberly Overman for Hillsborough County Commission

Apparently the Republican majority on the Hillsborough County Commission believe jails are an essential housing strategy. The Hope Affordable Housing Trust Fund was cut by 80% at tonight’s final budget hearing that funded 71% of a $9 billion budget to public safety before slashing the housing fund.

There is no such thing as good government in Hillsborough County.

I never would have expected the societal messaging and humor all mixed together in a Barbie movie. All Floridians need to see it to understand why their vote matters. Let’s not let the Florida leadership continue to do this to women and girls in our state.

The quote was shared:

“It is literally impossible to be a woman.

You are so beautiful, and so smart, and it kills me that you don’t think you are good enough. Like, we always have to be extraordinary, but somehow, we’re always doing it wrong?

We have to be thin but not too thin, and we can never say we want to be thin you have to say you want to be healthy. But also you have to be thin.

You have to have money but you can’t ask for money. Because that’s crass.
You have to be a boss but you can’t be mean.

You have to lead but you can’t squash other people’s ideas.

You’re supposed to love being a mother but you don’t talk about your kids all the time.
You have to be a career woman, but also look out for other people.

You have to answer for men’s bad behavior which is insane but if you point that out you’re accused of complaining.

Because you’re supposed to stay pretty for men but not so pretty you tempt them too much or you threaten other women.

Because you’re supposed to be part of the sisterhood but always stand out.

And always be grateful but never forget that the system is rigged so find a way to acknowledge that but also always be grateful.

You have to never get old, never be rude, never show off, never be selfish, never fall down, never fail, never show fear, never get out of line. It’s too hard, its too contradictory, and nobody gives you a medal and says thank you.

And it turns out in fact that not only are you doing everything wrong but also everything is your fault.

I’m just so tired of watching myself and every single woman tie herself into knots so that people like us.

If all of that is also true of a doll just representing a woman, then I don’t even know.”

Florida majority leaders want all women in this quandary. Tell them no before next November 2024.

Hillsborough County to decide on appeal to judges transportation tax ruling 10/13/2022

County Commission Chair Kimberly Overman is calling for a special meeting on Thursday at 5 p.m. to decide if the county will appeal the decision.

Overman says delaying the tax and planned projects is increasing the cost of the projects.

“We’ve already had a four-year delay, that’s the sad part about this. Voters voted to pass this in 2018. It may have cost us as much as a million dollars a year since we were not able to start investing in the early part of 2019,” Overman said.

Hillsborough County to decide on appeal to judges transportation tax ruling A Hillsborough County judge ruled Monday that voters will not be able to decide on a transportation tax referendum.

Statement by Commissioner Overman regarding the Hillsborough County Transportation Ballot initiative

On Thursday, October 13th at 5:00pm a special meeting will be held to discuss the circuit court ruling given orally on October 10, 2022, in the Jaroch v. Hillsborough County case involving the transportation surtax referendum. The Board of County Commissioners will discuss whether to file an appeal to the Second District Court of Appeal. The County Attorney’s Office will discuss a stay of this ruling and the matter of specialized outside appellate counsel. It is my understanding that if a stay is entered relating to the final order the voters of Hillsborough County can continue to cast their votes on the referendum. From the beginning, it has been the intentions of the Board for the citizens to vote on the transportation referendum and I believe our residents know how important the transportation issues are in Hillsborough County.

The attempts to stop the voters from voting on this issue only continues to delay the critical transportation needs of this county. We cannot afford to wait another two years to find relief for those who need these transportation improvements the most.

We cannot continue with the status quo. We have no choice but to move forward and I intend to do everything in my power to ensure that Hillsborough County voters have the opportunity to decide whether to fund transportation improvements.

Tampa International Airport to resume operations at 10 a.m. on Friday

As Hurricane Ian moves away from the Tampa Bay area, Tampa International Airport plans to resume commercial operations on Friday, Sept. 30, at 10 a.m.

Airport maintenance and operations staff began inspecting the airfield and facilities this morning and determined TPA did not sustain any serious damage during the storm.

Friday’s 10 a.m. reopening for departing and arriving flights will give the Airport and its partners such as the FAA, the TSA, airlines, and others time to take necessary steps for the safe resumption of business. Among them, bringing back aircraft that had to be removed ahead of the hurricane, as well as required staff. Parking facilities, the Rental Car Center, and TSA Security Checkpoints will be open Friday morning to serve departing passengers who arrive early for their flights. With high passenger volumes expected, passengers are urged to arrive at the Airport at least 2 hours before their scheduled departure.

“We feel very lucky to have come out on the other side of this largely unscathed and are eager to restart operations after such a fraught and anxious week,” Tampa International Airport CEO Joe Lopano said. “We can now continue serving as an important resource for our travelers and community, and begin helping our fellow Floridians in their time of need.”

TPA suspended operations at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27 ahead of Ian’s landfall to allow time to secure and protect Airport infrastructure from strong winds or rising water, and to ensure passengers and employees had time to get home or evacuate. The hurricane was forecast to potentially hit the Tampa Bay area directly, but the track shifted further south, sparing the Airport from the worst of the storm’s Category 4 impacts.

Passengers should check with their airlines for the latest information on flight status, as TPA operates and maintains the Airport but does not determine airline schedules. The Airport remains closed today, September 29, in preparation for Friday’s reopening. Please follow for the latest updates.
